A quick response 
to save Penny’s life
Last summer, a holiday to Whitby turned into a medical emergency for Penny, a 19-month-old toddler who had already faced a life-changing battle before. Less than a year earlier, at just 8 months old, Penny had undergone a lifesaving liver transplant at Birmingham Children’s Hospital. But as her family gathered for a relaxing summer break, Penny’s health suddenly took a turn for the worse.

Helimed53 were tasked to a medical emergency in Leicester at 12:45 and were on scene at 12:56. The crew attended a patient in cardiac arrest, provided critical care interventions, and transferred the patient by land to Leicester Royal Infirmary.
Helimed54 were tasked to a medical emergency in Stapleford at 07:34 and were on scene at 07:47. The crew attended a patient in cardiac arrest.
Helimed54 were tasked to a medical emergency in Derbyshire Dales at 10:58 and were on scene at 11:17. The crew attended a person who had collapsed while working in a tractor, provided critical care, and transferred the patient by air to a major emergency department.
Helimed53 were tasked to a medical emergency in Royal Leamington Spa at 13:50 and were on scene at 14:05. The crew attended a patient in cardiac arrest before transferring the patient by land to University Hospital Coventry and Warwickshire.
Helimed53 were tasked to a road traffic collision in Nuneaton at 11:42 and were on scene at 12:02. The crew attended two patients involved in a road traffic collision.
Helimed54 were tasked to a road traffic collision in Derby at 19:46 and were on scene at 19:58. The crew attended a multi-patient road traffic collision, provided critical care to one patient, and transferred the patient by land to Queen’s Medical Centre.
Medic53 were tasked to a medical emergency in Nuneaton at 22:00 and were on scene at 22:17. The crew attended the incident.
Medic54 were tasked to an assault in Arnold at 23:45 and were on scene at 00:02. The crew attended the incident before escorting the patient by land to Queen’s Medical Centre.

In total, we fly 4 helicopters across the charity, 2x for our local service and 2x for our Children’s Air Ambulance. We also have 2x Critical Care Cars that support our HEMs services.
Our local service covers 5x counties; Warwickshire, Northamptonshire and Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Rutland.
The Children’s Air Ambulance covers the whole of the UK and works with 10 Clinical Partner Teams from various specialist hospitals.
We provide a rapid response to medical emergencies in the counties of Warwickshire, Northamptonshire and Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Rutland, however, we do support air ambulances further afield if we’re needed.
The Children’s Air Ambulance operates throughout the UK and works with Clinical Partner Teams from specialist hospitals.
