A quick response 
to save Penny’s life
Last summer, a holiday to Whitby turned into a medical emergency for Penny, a 19-month-old toddler who had already faced a life-changing battle before. Less than a year earlier, at just 8 months old, Penny had undergone a lifesaving liver transplant at Birmingham Children’s Hospital. But as her family gathered for a relaxing summer break, Penny’s health suddenly took a turn for the worse.

Helimed53 were tasked to a medical incident in Redditch at 20:02 and were on scene at 20:12. The crew attended a patient in cardiac arrest.
Helimed54 were tasked to an incident in Hinckley and Bosworth at 11:51 and were on scene at 12:10. The crew attended a patient who had been struck by falling metal, assisting with their care and extrication before leaving them with the ambulance service for conveyance to hospital.
Helimed54 were tasked to a medical incident in Northampton at 17:18 and were on scene at 17:40. The crew provided advanced critical care to a patient following a cardiac arrest before escorting them by land to hospital.
Helimed53 were tasked to a road traffic collision in Byfield at 16:21 and were on scene at 16:32. The crew attended a patient following a motorcycle collision before transferring them by air to University Hospital Coventry and Warwickshire.
Helimed53 were tasked to an RTC in Mountsorrel at 15:45 and were on scene at 16:00. The crew provided specialist treatment before escorting them to hospital by land ambulance for further treatment.
Medic54 were tasked to a medical incident in Wigston at 02:13 and were on scene at 02:35. The crew attended a patient in cardiac arrest before escorting them by land to Glenfield Hospital.
Medic53 were tasked to a medical incident in Wellingborough at 00:48 and were on scene at 01:16. The crew attended a patient in cardiac arrest and supported the East Midlands Ambulance Service with the patient’s care.
Helimed53 were tasked to a medical incident in West Northamptonshire at 07:47 and were on scene at 08:03. The crew attended a patient with a serious medical condition before transferring them by air to hospital.
Medic54 were tasked to a fall in Radcliffe on Trent at 12:15 and were on scene at 12:30. The crew assessed a child following a fall from a climbing frame before leaving them with the ambulance service for conveyance to Queen’s Medical Centre.
Helimed54 were tasked to an RTC in Mountsorrel at 15:32 and were on scene at 15:42. The crew provided specialist care before escorting them to hospital by land ambulance for further treatment.
Helimed54 were tasked to an incident in Stamford at 20:00 and were on scene at 20:14. Following assessment of the situation, the crew were stood down when specialist critical care support was no longer required.
Medic53 were tasked to a medical emergency in Hinckley at 20:49 and were on scene at 21:03. Following assessment of the situation, the crew were stood down when specialist critical care support was no longer required.

In total, we fly 4 helicopters across the charity, 2x for our local service and 2x for our Children’s Air Ambulance. We also have 2x Critical Care Cars that support our HEMs services.
Our local service covers 5x counties; Warwickshire, Northamptonshire and Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Rutland.
The Children’s Air Ambulance covers the whole of the UK and works with 10 Clinical Partner Teams from various specialist hospitals.
We provide a rapid response to medical emergencies in the counties of Warwickshire, Northamptonshire and Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Rutland, however, we do support air ambulances further afield if we’re needed.
The Children’s Air Ambulance operates throughout the UK and works with Clinical Partner Teams from specialist hospitals.
