A quick response 
to save Penny’s life
Last summer, a holiday to Whitby turned into a medical emergency for Penny, a 19-month-old toddler who had already faced a life-changing battle before. Less than a year earlier, at just 8 months old, Penny had undergone a lifesaving liver transplant at Birmingham Children’s Hospital. But as her family gathered for a relaxing summer break, Penny’s health suddenly took a turn for the worse.

Medic53 were tasked to a road traffic collision in West Northamptonshire at 06:20 and were on scene at 06:38. The crew treated a patient following a head-on collision before escorting them by land to University Hospital Coventry and Warwickshire.
Helimed54 were tasked to a road traffic collision in Stoke-on-Trent at 12:35 and were on scene at 13:07. The crew assessed a patient at the scene and provided support to the ambulance service
Helimed54 were tasked to a medical incident in Derby at 15:54 and were on scene at 16:09. The crew attended a patient at the scene.
Helimed54 were tasked to an incident in Leicester at 17:58 and were on scene at 18:11. Following assessment of the situation, specialist critical care support was no longer required.
Helimed54 were tasked to a road traffic collision involving an electric bicycle in Gainsborough at 18:20 and were on scene at 18:43. The crew assessed the patient before escorting them by land to hospital in Hull.
Working alongside clinical partner team SoNAR, the G-NICU crew and NCAA Airdesk team transferred a patient to Derriford Hospital in just 42mins. The same journey by road would have taken 3hrs 39mins. This was an incubator transfer.
Helimed53 were tasked to a cardiac arrest in Kenilworth at 11:16 and were on scene at 11:26. The crew worked alongside local ambulance service colleagues to provide specialist support at the scene.
Helimed53 were tasked to an industrial incident in Northampton at 14:19 and were on scene at 14:33. Following assessment of the situation, specialist critical care support was no longer required.
Helimed53 were tasked to a road traffic collision in Little Wolford at 15:21 and were on scene at 15:40. The crew attended a patient with life-threatening injuries before escorting them by land to University Hospital Coventry and Warwickshire.
Medic54 were tasked to a medical incident in Rushcliffe at 19:24 and were on scene at 19:37. The crew attended a patient before leaving them in the care of another service.
Medic53 were tasked to a medical incident in Warwick at 20:03 and were on scene at 20:18. The crew attended a patient in cardiac arrest.
Medic54 were tasked to a medical incident in Long Eaton at 21:36 and were on scene at 21:56. The crew assisted with the care of a patient before they were conveyed to hospital.

In total, we fly four helicopters across the charity.
Our regional service, Your Local Air Ambulance, flies two helicopters. The service responds to emergency callouts across five key counties in central England; Warwickshire, Northamptonshire and Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Rutland. The helicopters are supported by two Critical Care Cars, allowing the service to operate 24/7.
The National Children’s Air Ambulance flies two helicopters, covering the whole of the UK. The service works in partnership with 11 Clinical Partnership Teams from across the country to transfer critically ill children to the specialist hospitals to receive the care they need.

We provide a rapid response to medical emergencies in the counties of Warwickshire, Northamptonshire and Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Rutland, however, we do support air ambulances further afield if we’re needed.
The Children’s Air Ambulance operates throughout the UK and works with Clinical Partner Teams from specialist hospitals.
