Find your next role with us
All TAAS Paramedics and Doctors have to undergo a rigorous recruitment & selection process prior to working for our local air ambulances.
The environments in which our critical care crews operate are challenging, and therefore our stringent recruitment process ensures that successful candidates are ideally suited to meet these demands.

BECOME ONE OF OUR DOCTORS
TAAS has 24/7 doctor cover on both of our operational platforms to work in partnership with our experienced critical care paramedics. Doctors working with TAAS have significant pre-hospital experience and undergo regular training to maintain their advanced critical care skills.
The following opportunities are offered for new doctors at TAAS:
Fellowships
Senior doctors from Anaesthetics, Emergency Medicine or Intensive Care Medicine are invited to apply for a one-year full-time TAAS Fellowship. Recruitment opens every December and is advertised on the NHS Jobs website and social media. If an applicant has the required experience and skill set, they will be invited to attend a selection day where they will be interviewed and assessed on practical skills, underpinning knowledge, teamwork and interpersonal skills in resuscitation simulations.
TAAS also offers two junior fellowships on a part-time basis for ST3+ doctors to obtain experience of Pre Hospital Emergency Medicine (PHEM) as a stepping stone to a senior Fellowship or PHEM training application.
PHEM training
TAAS host four PHEM subspecialty training posts based at Health Education England West Midlands. These doctors are appointed via the IBTPHEM national recruitment and undertake one year of training to complete their FIMC examination and obtain a CCT in PHEM.
All new doctors are supervised and mentored by experienced HEMS Consultants and can only work as a solo doctor on a HEMS crew after achieving a high level of competency.
BECOME ONE OF OUR PARAMEDICS
The Air Ambulance Service is fairly unique in that we employ our own paramedic staff rather than having them seconded from local Ambulance services. This allows us, as an organisation, to upskill and provide specialist training to our Paramedics. Indeed, all Paramedics selected to work for TAAS will undertake post-graduate training to attain the qualification of Critical Care Paramedic (CCP). Once qualified as CCPs, they can administer additional drugs, for example, pain relief and sedation (over and above what a standard UK paramedic can give), and also carry out surgical skills to aid in patient treatment
TAAS Paramedics are predominantly recruited from NHS Ambulance services, having gained a minimum of five years of Paramedic experience “on the road”.
The selection process is similar, but arguably more intense than the Doctors’ selection and is usually completed over an entire weekend, which will comprise several written examinations, practical assessments, fitness tests and psychometric and leadership assessments. If successful, the candidates are invited back for an interview and presentation, after which a decision is made on suitability for a probationary job offer, subject to the successful completion of further training.
The Air Ambulance Service Paramedics/CCPs also carry out the role of HEMS Crewmember, which is a European Aviation Safety Association defined role. This involves air navigation, meteorology and other aviation-specific aspects. The initial HEMS crewmember course lasts two weeks and is provided by our aviation provider. Following completion of the course, the paramedic will be supervised and mentored in the role until they are ready to be “Line Checked” by one of the training captains, after which they will then fly as the solo HEMS crewmember assisting the pilot on missions.
Due to legal and regulatory requirements, we cannot offer work experience places within the Operations Team.

JOIN OUR NCAA CREW
Crew Member
NCAA Crew Members are technical experts for the bespoke NCAA aircraft interior and NCAA equipment (ie stretcher and incubator). Crew Members fly in the aircraft supporting our NHS Clinical Partner Teams to deliver specialist inter hospital transfers across the UK. Whilst working closely with the Pilots to ensure information regarding the mission is being communicated clearly and concisely. Crew Members also work alongside the dedicated NCAA Air Desk to help deliver the critical time saving mission objective.
Crew Members are skilled in the use of all NCAA equipment and support the NHS clinical teams with loading and unloading both equipment and patients. On missions the Crew Members will support our NHS Clinical Partners Teams throughout the operation providing support in the helicopter and when transitioning the patient to the specialist hospital.
Crew Members will also support a patient’s parent / relative who are able to fly with their child in the helicopter and provide assurance and guidance throughout the journey. When they are not providing specialist support, the NCAA Crew Member will undertake regular tasks involving the provision of a high infection prevention and compliance standards as well as service essential audits of the operating base and aircraft, ensuring we are always ready to provide our specialist service to our NHS Clinical Partners.
Air Desk Coordinators
NCAA Air Desk Coordinators are at the heart of our operations. The Air Desk Coordinators will control the mission right from the initial request right through to the final landing and debrief with the Air Crew team.

The Airdesk also work closely within the charity supporting our wider teams with essential information regarding our service.
Air Desk Coordinators make decisions daily which directly influence the outcome of each NCAA mission.
National Children’s Air Ambulance Pilots
Our Children’s Air Ambulance pilots are highly trained professionals employed by Sloane Helicopters Ltd, who also hold our Air Operator’s Certificate (AOC). To maintain the highest standards, all pilots must hold an EASA multi-engine Instrument Rating (IR) specific to our aircraft.
Due to strict aviation regulations, this is not a voluntary position.
Your Local Air Ambulance Pilots
The pilots flying for Your local air ambulance service—covering Warwickshire, Northamptonshire, Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Rutland, are also employed by Sloane Helicopters Ltd, based at Sywell Aerodrome. Sloane holds our AOC, ensuring consistent safety and quality across all missions.
As with our national service, pilots must meet rigorous criteria, including an EASA multi-engine IR. These are professional roles and not open to volunteers.
