A quick response 
to save Penny’s life
Last summer, a holiday to Whitby turned into a medical emergency for Penny, a 19-month-old toddler who had already faced a life-changing battle before. Less than a year earlier, at just 8 months old, Penny had undergone a lifesaving liver transplant at Birmingham Children’s Hospital. But as her family gathered for a relaxing summer break, Penny’s health suddenly took a turn for the worse.

Helimed54 were tasked to an RTC in Clay Cross at 19:52 and were on scene at 20:11. The crew provided treatment before transferring them by air to hospital for further treatment.
Helimed53 were tasked to a medical emergency in Smalley at 07:34 and were on scene at 07:55. The crew attended the incident and supported the transfer of a patient to Royal Derby Hospital by road for further treatment.
Helimed54 were tasked to a fall incident in Mansfield at 06:20 and were on scene at 06:30. The crew attended the incident before transporting a patient by road to Queen’s Medical Centre for further treatment.
Helimed54 were tasked to a medical emergency in Bakewell at 08:24 and were on scene at 08:54. The crew provided critical care at the scene before escorting a patient by road to Chesterfield for further treatment.
Helimed54 were tasked to an industrial and agricultural trauma incident in Rushcliffe at 18:17 and were on scene at 18:25. Following assessment of the situation, the crew were stood down when specialist critical care support was no longer required.
Helimed54 were tasked to a medical emergency in Lincoln at 21:07 and were on scene at 21:28. Following assessment of the situation, specialist critical care support was no longer required.
Medic54 were tasked to a medical emergency in Heanor at 22:15 and were on scene at 22:37. The crew attended a patient experiencing a cardiac arrest before escorting them to hospital by land ambulance for further treatment.
Medic54 were tasked to a medical emergency in Loughborough at 01:30 and were on scene at 01:47. Following assessment of the situation, the crew were stood down when specialist critical care support was no longer required.
Helimed53 were tasked to an industrial and agricultural trauma incident in North East Derbyshire at 09:18 and were on scene at 09:45. Landing nearby, the crew assessed and treated a patient before they were left in the care of the ambulance service for onward transfer to hospital.
Helimed53 were tasked to a medical emergency in Southam at 13:09 and were on scene at 13:17. The crew attended the incident and provided assessment at the scene.

In total, we fly 4 helicopters across the charity, 2x for our local service and 2x for our Children’s Air Ambulance. We also have 2x Critical Care Cars that support our HEMs services.
Our local service covers 5x counties; Warwickshire, Northamptonshire and Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Rutland.
The Children’s Air Ambulance covers the whole of the UK and works with 10 Clinical Partner Teams from various specialist hospitals.
We provide a rapid response to medical emergencies in the counties of Warwickshire, Northamptonshire and Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Rutland, however, we do support air ambulances further afield if we’re needed.
The Children’s Air Ambulance operates throughout the UK and works with Clinical Partner Teams from specialist hospitals.
