A quick response 
to save Penny’s life
Last summer, a holiday to Whitby turned into a medical emergency for Penny, a 19-month-old toddler who had already faced a life-changing battle before. Less than a year earlier, at just 8 months old, Penny had undergone a lifesaving liver transplant at Birmingham Children’s Hospital. But as her family gathered for a relaxing summer break, Penny’s health suddenly took a turn for the worse.

Helimed54 were tasked to an incident in Leicester at 13:03 and were on scene at 13:09. Following assessment of the situation, the crew were stood down when specialist critical care support was no longer required.
Helimed53 were tasked to a road traffic collision in North Kilworth at 15:45 and were on scene at 15:56. The crew provided critical care interventions before escorting a patient by road to University Hospital Coventry and Warwickshire for further treatment.
Helimed54 were tasked to a fall incident in Oakham at 17:38 and were on scene at 17:50. Landing nearby, the crew provided critical care interventions before transferring a patient by air to University Hospital Coventry and Warwickshire for further treatment.
Helimed53 were tasked to a road traffic collision in Derby at 18:43 and were on scene at 19:10. The crew provided critical care before escorting a patient by land ambulance to Queen’s Medical Centre for further treatment.
Medic54 were tasked to a road traffic collision in Thrussington at 23:29 and were on scene at 23:38. The crew provided critical care interventions before escorting a patient by land ambulance to Queen’s Medical Centre for further treatment.
Working alongside clinical partner team SONeT, the G-CPTZ crew and NCAA Airdesk team transferred a patient to St. Richards Hospital in just 58mins. The same journey by road would have taken 3hrs 43mins. This was an Incubator transfer.
Helimed54 were tasked to an industrial and agricultural trauma incident in North Lincolnshire at 07:13 and were on scene at 07:29. The crew provided critical care interventions before transporting a patient by road to Hull for further treatment.
Helimed53 were tasked to an incident in Birmingham at 18:24 and were on scene at 18:48. Working alongside local ambulance service colleagues, the crew provided specialist support before escorting them to hospital by land ambulance for further treatment.

In total, we fly 4 helicopters across the charity, 2x for our local service and 2x for our Children’s Air Ambulance. We also have 2x Critical Care Cars that support our HEMs services.
Our local service covers 5x counties; Warwickshire, Northamptonshire and Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Rutland.
The Children’s Air Ambulance covers the whole of the UK and works with 10 Clinical Partner Teams from various specialist hospitals.
We provide a rapid response to medical emergencies in the counties of Warwickshire, Northamptonshire and Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Rutland, however, we do support air ambulances further afield if we’re needed.
The Children’s Air Ambulance operates throughout the UK and works with Clinical Partner Teams from specialist hospitals.
