A quick response 
to save Penny’s life
Last summer, a holiday to Whitby turned into a medical emergency for Penny, a 19-month-old toddler who had already faced a life-changing battle before. Less than a year earlier, at just 8 months old, Penny had undergone a lifesaving liver transplant at Birmingham Children’s Hospital. But as her family gathered for a relaxing summer break, Penny’s health suddenly took a turn for the worse.

Medic53 were tasked to a medical emergency in Northampton at 05:26 and were on scene at 05:51. The crew supported the East Midlands Ambulance Service with the management of a patient at the scene.
Helimed54 were tasked to a medical emergency in Higham Ferrers at 07:16 and were on scene at 07:39. The crew attended a patient in cardiac arrest to support the East Midlands Ambulance Service team.
Medic53 were tasked to a medical emergency in Bubbenhall at 13:59 and were on scene at 14:10. The crew assisted the West Midlands Ambulance Service with the care of a patient in cardiac arrest, obtained a return of spontaneous circulation (ROSC), and transferred the patient by land to University Hospital Coventry and Warwickshire.
Medic53 were tasked to a trauma incident in Rugby at 22:14 and were on scene at 22:28. The crew assessed and stabilised a patient before transferring them by land to Hospital.
Medic54 were tasked to a fall in West Bridgford at 18:36 and were on scene at 18:47. The crew attended a patient who had fallen from a window, provided critical care, and conveyed the patient by land to Queen’s Medical Centre.
Medic54 were tasked to a medical emergency in Derby at 20:12 and were on scene at 20:30. The crew attended a patient following a witnessed collapse and conveyed the patient by land to Royal Derby Hospital.
Working alongside clinical partner team CoMET, the G-CTPZ crew and NCAA Airdesk team transferred a patient to Queens Medical Centre in just 50mins. The same journey by road would have taken 2hrs 25mins.
Helimed54 were tasked to an industrial incident in Melton at 07:51 and were on scene at 08:06. The crew attended the incident before specialist critical care support was no longer required.
Helimed54 were tasked to a fall in Rugby at 10:49 and were on scene at 11:14. The crew attended the patient before escorting them by land ambulance to hospital for further treatment.

In total, we fly 4 helicopters across the charity, 2x for our local service and 2x for our Children’s Air Ambulance. We also have 2x Critical Care Cars that support our HEMs services.
Our local service covers 5x counties; Warwickshire, Northamptonshire and Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Rutland.
The Children’s Air Ambulance covers the whole of the UK and works with 10 Clinical Partner Teams from various specialist hospitals.
We provide a rapid response to medical emergencies in the counties of Warwickshire, Northamptonshire and Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Rutland, however, we do support air ambulances further afield if we’re needed.
The Children’s Air Ambulance operates throughout the UK and works with Clinical Partner Teams from specialist hospitals.
