“Despite the amazing efforts of everyone else who attended me, I don’t think I’d be alive today. My cardiologist has told me that my chances of surviving were only 0.15 %. It really is a miracle that I’m still here”
Lying on his bedroom floor, after suffering a cardiac arrest in his sleep, Phil Hulland showed no signs of life for 26 minutes.
“I suddenly felt as though I was going to pass out so I stepped on to the grass. That’s the last thing I remember until I woke up in hospital”
When retired retail manager John Putt (83) collapsed at Compton Verney in Warwickshire he was amongst a crowd of thousands of people.
“If I hadn’t been flown in the air ambulance it maybe that I wouldn’t have made it. I could have lost my leg or my life”
Dental nurse Katie Pease had to be cut out of her car after it was involved in a head on collision with a truck on an icy road at Ashfordby Hill near Melton Mowbray.
“It was a freak accident. All I can remember was choking. I was strapped in and jammed behind the steering wheel, whilst my head was pulled out of the vehicle and wedged between my truck and a tree”
Neil was attempting to reverse his Land Rover Discovery up a slippery slope when the throttle cable snapped. The vehicle lost power and drive which, in turn, caused it to shoot forwards.
“I owe my right leg, if not my life to the helicopter flying me to hospital so quickly”
Every time she sees or hears the local air ambulance flying above her, Letitia Hayward thinks of what might have been had it not come to her rescue.

East Midlands Airbase
East Midlands Airbase
East Midlands Airbase is where our Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Rutland teams operate from.
Saving lives across these counties and beyond when required, the airbase holds one of our aircraft and Critical Care Cars.
We moved into the Headquarters at Blue Skies House in 2016 and this has been the home of our Fundraising, Marketing and Comms, Volunteering, Supporter Care, Events and Finance teams ever since.
We also have a number of volunteers that support us in the office and we love seeing them join our teams every week.
Our warehouse in Daventry is home to our reuse and recycling services, including our Asset Recovery service.
We also have our online sales function, including eBay and Amazon sales operating from here, making this a busy but exciting base.
The Hanger at Alfreton is our first retail superstore which opened in February 2019 selling a whole range of pre-loved items, new goods, large and small furniture and a whole array of clothes.
As well as this, you can pop in for coffee and cake at The Landing Pad café and children can take advantage of the secure play area outside.
Our airbase in Coventry is the home to our team who operate in and around Warwickshire and Northamptonshire.
As with our East Midlands Airbase, we have our Doctors, Critical Care Paramedics, Air Desk support and Pilots.
