Coventry woodturners raise vital funds to support lifesaving charity
Coombe Abbey Woodturning Club have raised vital funds to support the lifesaving missions of the Warwickshire and Northamptonshire Air Ambulance (WNAA).
Coombe Abbey Woodurning Club is based in Coventry and have over 100 members. The members are mostly amateurs from novice to expert who are always willing to exchange ideas and advice on all woodturning topics from obtaining wood, supplies, equipment, and tools, to improving techniques.
The club held an annual raffle from February to August 2023 to raise vital funds to support the charity, with all prizes donated by club members – with some even hand-made by individual members.
Raffle tickets were sold at the club throughout that time, and outside events were also put on such as the Daffodil Sunday and The Coventry Godiva Festival. A display cabinet at the club workshop displays wooden items made by members which are available to purchase, with the funds also going to WNAA.
The club managed to raise a fabulous total of £1,450 to support the lifesaving missions in Warwickshire and further afield.
“We would like to say thank you to all of our members for their unwavering support over the years for this vital and deserving charity,” said Graham Ball, Chairman of Coombe Abbey Woodturners Club.
“We managed to raise a great amount to support the charity in 2023 and look forward to continuing to support their lifesaving missions and keep their helicopters flying,” he added.
Within minutes, WNAA’s critical care crews can be on the ground delivering pre-hospital critical care and giving patients the very best chance of survival – this vital service relies entirely on donations to raise the £2,300 needed for each rescue mission, as the charity receives no government or National Lottery funding.
Community Fundraising Executive for Warwickshire, Sally Newman said:
“On behalf of the charity I would like to say a big thank you to everyone involved in the Coombe Abbey Woodturners Club for the vital funds they have raised to support us.”
“Without support like this from the local community, clubs and businesses we wouldn’t be able to continue to deliver pre-hospital critical care to those who need it most,” she expressed.
