A quick response 
to save Penny’s life
Last summer, a holiday to Whitby turned into a medical emergency for Penny, a 19-month-old toddler who had already faced a life-changing battle before. Less than a year earlier, at just 8 months old, Penny had undergone a lifesaving liver transplant at Birmingham Children’s Hospital. But as her family gathered for a relaxing summer break, Penny’s health suddenly took a turn for the worse.

Helimed53 were tasked to a medical emergency in Berkswell at 11:26 and were on scene at 11:35. The crew worked alongside local ambulance service colleagues to provide specialist support at the scene.
Helimed53 were tasked to an incident in Warwick at 12:59 and were on scene at 13:08. Working alongside local ambulance service colleagues, the crew provided specialist support before the patient remained in the care of the ambulance service.
Helimed53 were tasked to a medical emergency in Northampton at 13:56 and were on scene at 14:18. The crew provided specialist care before escorting them to hospital by land ambulance for further treatment.
Helimed54 were tasked to an incident in Kirby Bellars at 10:48 and were on scene at 11:04. Working alongside local ambulance service colleagues, the crew provided specialist support before escorting them to hospital by land ambulance for further treatment.
Helimed54 were tasked to a medical emergency in West Northamptonshire at 06:57 and were on scene at 07:32. The crew provided specialist care before transferring them by air to hospital for further treatment.
Helimed53 were tasked to a medical emergency in Leicester at 08:31 and were on scene at 08:48. The crew landed in a nearby primary school field before attending the patient.
Medic54 were tasked to a horse riding incident in Harlaxton at 10:46 and were on scene at 11:22. The crew assisted with the care of a patient following a fall from a horse before leaving them with the ambulance crew for conveyance to Lincoln County Hospital.
Helimed53 were tasked to a medical emergency in Wellingborough at 12:21 and were on scene at 12:42. The crew landed in a nearby field before attending the patient.
Medic53 were tasked to a medical emergency in Coventry at 15:26 and were on scene at 15:40. The crew assisted with the care of the patient.
Helimed54 were tasked to a medical incident in South Muskham at 18:03 and were on scene at 18:20. Following assessment of the situation, specialist critical care support was no longer required.

In total, we fly 4 helicopters across the charity, 2x for our local service and 2x for our Children’s Air Ambulance. We also have 2x Critical Care Cars that support our HEMs services.
Our local service covers 5x counties; Warwickshire, Northamptonshire and Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Rutland.
The Children’s Air Ambulance covers the whole of the UK and works with 10 Clinical Partner Teams from various specialist hospitals.
We provide a rapid response to medical emergencies in the counties of Warwickshire, Northamptonshire and Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Rutland, however, we do support air ambulances further afield if we’re needed.
The Children’s Air Ambulance operates throughout the UK and works with Clinical Partner Teams from specialist hospitals.
