A quick response 
to save Penny’s life
Last summer, a holiday to Whitby turned into a medical emergency for Penny, a 19-month-old toddler who had already faced a life-changing battle before. Less than a year earlier, at just 8 months old, Penny had undergone a lifesaving liver transplant at Birmingham Children’s Hospital. But as her family gathered for a relaxing summer break, Penny’s health suddenly took a turn for the worse.

Working alongside clinical partner team SONeT, the G-NICU crew and NCAA Airdesk team transferred a patient to Dorset County Hospital in just 30mins. The same journey by road would have taken 2hrs 34mins. This was an incubator transfer.
Helimed53 were tasked to an incident in Bedworth at 13:12 and were on scene at 13:24. The crew assessed and provided care to a patient at the scene.
Helimed53 were tasked to an incident in Wolston at 16:09 and were on scene at 16:19. Working alongside local ambulance service colleagues, the crew provided specialist support before they were left in the care of the ambulance service for onward transfer to hospital.
Helimed53 were tasked to an RTC in Stratford-upon-Avon at 18:00 and were on scene at 18:17. The crew provided specialist treatment before transferring them by air to hospital for further treatment.
Helimed54 were tasked to an incident in Burton upon Trent at 19:20 and were on scene at 19:42. Working alongside local ambulance service colleagues, the crew provided specialist support before escorting them to hospital by land ambulance for further treatment.
Medic53 were tasked to a medical emergency in Coventry at 23:01 and were on scene at 23:10. The crew worked alongside local ambulance service colleagues to provide specialist support at the scene.
Working alongside clinical partner team WATCh, the G-NICU crew and NCAA Airdesk team transferred a patient and their parent to Bristol Royal Hospital for Children in just 1hr 15mins. The same journey by road would have taken 3hrs.
Medic54 were tasked to an incident in Kegworth at 02:41 and were on scene at 03:00. The crew attended an unconscious patient with a possible head injury before escorting them by land to Queen’s Medical Centre.
Medic53 were tasked to a medical emergency in Cawston at 02:17 and were on scene at 02:35. The crew worked alongside local ambulance service colleagues to provide specialist support at the scene.
Helimed54 were tasked to an RTC in Derby at 09:10 and were on scene at 09:30. Following assessment of the situation, the crew were stood down when specialist critical care support was no longer required.
Medic53 were tasked to a medical emergency in Cawston at 02:17 and were on scene at 02:35. The crew worked alongside local ambulance service colleagues to provide specialist support at the scene.
Helimed54 were tasked to an RTC in Derby at 09:10 and were on scene at 09:30. Following assessment of the situation, the crew were stood down when specialist critical care support was no longer required.

In total, we fly 4 helicopters across the charity, 2x for our local service and 2x for our Children’s Air Ambulance. We also have 2x Critical Care Cars that support our HEMs services.
Our local service covers 5x counties; Warwickshire, Northamptonshire and Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Rutland.
The Children’s Air Ambulance covers the whole of the UK and works with 10 Clinical Partner Teams from various specialist hospitals.
We provide a rapid response to medical emergencies in the counties of Warwickshire, Northamptonshire and Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Rutland, however, we do support air ambulances further afield if we’re needed.
The Children’s Air Ambulance operates throughout the UK and works with Clinical Partner Teams from specialist hospitals.
