The family of Shaun Taylor will be holding a family fun day to raise funds to support the vital missions of Your Local Air Ambulance (YLAA) in Northamptonshire and further afield.
The seventh annual family fun day will take place on Saturday 12 September at Cold Ashby Playing Fields. The family have raised over £32,000 for the charity over the years and have made twelve lifesaving missions possible for others.
A football match will kick off the fun day at 12:30pm, seeing Black Rose Barber Co and Shaun’s Spanners face each other. Shaun’s Spanners team is made up of Shaun’s family and friends, led by his cousin Mark and best friend Ryan.
The day also includes a variety of activities and stalls including bouncy castles, face painting, BBQ, local crafters, a bar, raffle, tombola, live DJ, ice cream van and much more until the final whistle at 4:30pm. Free entry and free parking will be available for anyone attending.
Shaun was just 26 years old when he passed away on 19 May 2019, leaving behind his wife Vickie and their two young boys, Oscar and Ethan. Shaun collapsed and died of an aortic dissection; Your Local Air Ambulance crew arrived very quickly and did everything they could to save him.
Aortic dissection (AD) occurs when an injury to the innermost layer of the aorta allows blood to flow between the layers of the aortic wall, forcing the layers apart.
“Shaun had a heart of gold and would do anything for anyone, he was funny, kind, caring and hard working. He is missed so much by so many,” said Vickie.
“I know he would be very grateful to the charity, just as his whole family are, so we wanted to give something back to help them,” she added.
The family has raised more than £32,000 by holding various fundraising events; the annual September fundraiser, Easter fetes, Christmas fetes, sponsored read-a-ton, among others. His two sons Oscar and Ethan even did a sponsored bike ride, raising over £2,000 alone.
