New Year, new challenge events to support your chosen charity
With a new year comes a new determination to make a difference. If you want to tick something off your bucket list or take on a new activity, why not take on an epic challenge? – it’s a great way to stay motivated and keep focused.
Why not team your new year goals with fundraising for a charity you’re passionate about? Charities have events and fundraisers throughout the year, allowing participants to gather support, raise vital funds and of course, train for the event.
So, what are some of the thrilling events The Air Ambulance Service has in store for supporters in 2024?
Ellesmere Port Firewalk – 24 February 2024
Walk on the eerie burning embers in darkness at the Vauxhall Motor Sports Club, Ellesmere Port, Cheshire. This once in a lifetime challenge will see you walk bare foot over red-hot embers measuring around 800 degrees. There are no special effects or tricks with this challenge, just you and the fire.
London Royal Parks Challenge – 17 August 2024
A challenging distance of 45km will see you visit all 10 Royal Parks in London in one day and trek along the banks of the River Thames. The first Royal Park will be Bushy Park before following the River Thames along to Richmond Park, travelling through historic parkland before crossing the river again and heading into Chelsea. You will eventually end this urban challenge in Greenwich Park having visited Bushy Park, Richmond Park, Brompton Cemetery, Kensington Gardens, Hyde Park, Green Park, St James’ Park, Westminster and Victoria Tower Gardens, Regent’s Park and Greenwich Park.
National Three Peaks Challenge – 30 August 2024
Considered one of Britain’s toughest outdoor challenges, the National Three Peaks Challenge takes on the three highest peaks in England, Scotland and Wales – Ben Nevis (1,344m), Scafell Pike (978m) and Snowdon (1,085m) and your challenge is to complete these within 24 hours! Taking place over the course of two days, you will trek a total of 26 miles and ascend to an incredible height of almost 3,000m. Take on this challenge and be one of the first hikers of the day to take on Ben Nevis.
Snowdon at Night Challenge – 19 October 2024
Take on the highest mountain in Wales at 1085m at night with a unique way to challenge yourself and your senses. Beginning in Llanberis in the heart of the Snowdonia National Park, you will trek under the starry skies to reach the summit of Snowdon (YrWyddfa). You will be supported all the way by the experienced Mountain Leaders and will celebrate your amazing achievement with breakfast at the finish line. This challenge will test your physical and mental limits.
Sahara Desert Trek – 02 November 2024
This five-day trek covers a total of 100km where you will experience the land, the people, and the wildlife of the Sahara Desert. Come night fall you will sleep under Africa’s star strewn skies and enjoy traditional Berber hospitality. The challenge goes beyond the Jebel Saghro region, including climbing Jebel El Mrakib with incredible views of the region and celebrating your impressive achievement and end to the challenge in Ouarzazate. This is an unforgiving and lifechanging challenge.
