Charity Highlights How Legacies Help Save Lives

One in seven missions flown by the Children’s Air Ambulance (TCAA) – the first and only neonatal and paediatric helicopter emergency transfer service in the UK – are funded by gifts left in Wills.

This week (9^th to 15^th September) is Remember a Charity in Your Will Week and the TCAA Legacies and In memory Manager Chloe Bass is urging local people to support the lifesaving transfer service for critically ill babies and children.

So far this year the charity has undertaken 110 patient transfers and attended 50 hospitals.

“Our charity receives no government funding and relies totally on donations and fundraising to remain operational. The average cost of each mission is £3,500.The bespoke, specialist equipment on-board our helicopter provides a flying intensive care unit for children and when a child is too sick to fly, the Children’s Air Ambulance can fly a specialist team to them. With flight times commonly around four times quicker than a transfer by road, in many cases, the time saved means a life saved,” she says.

Chloe acknowledges that when most people make Wills their loved ones come first but she hopes they might consider making a gift to the TCAA as well.

“Should you choose to leave a gift to us in your Will, we will always respect your privacy and handle your estate and wishes with care. We will ensure your donation will be used for the greatest impact and we can also offer you a choice of how and where your gift is used,” she says.
