Leicestershire local takes on 30 day running challenge to raise funds for lifesaving charity

Shaun Wilkes from Loughborough, Leicestershire, will be running 5km a day for thirty days to raise funds to support the lifesaving missions of the Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Rutland Air Ambulance (DLRAA).

Starting on 15 April 2024, Shaun will be running 5km in Loughborough over thirty consecutive days to raise vital funds to support the charity’s lifesaving missions across Leicestershire and further afield.

“I took up running during lockdown and really enjoyed it, so I thought why not continue running while raising funds for a worthy local charity,” said Shaun.

“I will be starting my challenge on 15 April and finishing on my birthday, 14 May. I’m hoping to complete the challenge with a different running partner for each location to push myself even more and am looking forward to helping the charity to complete more lifesaving missions,” he added.

Within minutes, DLRAA’s critical care crews can be on the ground delivering pre-hospital critical care and giving patients the very best chance of survival – this vital service relies entirely on donations to raise the £2,300 needed for each rescue mission, as the charity receives no government or National Lottery funding.

Molly Norton, Community Fundraising Relationship Executive for the charity said:

“We would like to say a big thank you to Shaun for taking on this running challenge to raise vital funds to support our charity, we wish him luck and know he will accomplish his great challenge.”

“As a charity, we rely on the generosity of the local community and our dedicated supporters like Shaun to raise the £2,300 needed for each mission.”
