Family-run pub has raised nearly £14,000 to support local air ambulance charity

The St Johns Arms in Melchbourne has raised nearly £14,000 to support the lifesaving missions of The Air Ambulance Service (TAAS).

The pub has been raising funds to support the charity since 2024 thanks to Debbie Garon, the Events Manager, and are aiming to smash their fundraising total of £20,000 before the end of 2026.

In September the pub raised £3,361 to add to their fundraising total with a country western themed barn dance including a bucking bull for the kids, a live band, food, a raffle and an auction.

The Air Ambulance Service delivers lifesaving care through two vital services.

The National Children’s Air Ambulance operates across England, Scotland and Wales, providing specialist transfers for critically ill babies and children.

Your Local Air Ambulance brings rapid emergency care to communities across Warwickshire, Northamptonshire, Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Rutland.

“We chose to raise funds for the charity as I personally know a few people that have needed the assistance of the charity due to incidents in motorcross, farming and hunting,” said Debbie Garon.

“The pub has been fantastic and became a supporter of the charity two years ago and have allowed me to organise a variety of events including clay shooting, an auction, black tie ball, regular raffles, tractor runs and I even walked the Yorkshire 3 Peaks and raised a further £2,309,” she added.

St Johns Arms in Melchbourne are hoping to raise £20,000 by the end of 2026 and to continue fundraising in 2027.

“We would like to say a massive thank you to everyone that supports us at the events as without these amazing people and the staff at St Johns Arms we wouldn’t have raised such an incredible amount in a short space of time,” expressed Debbie.

Andrew Partridge, Community Fundraising Executive for the charity said:

“We are extremely grateful to Debbie and everyone involved at St Johns Arms for the vital funds they have raised to support our charity.”

“We receive no government or National Lottery funding for our lifesaving missions. Every penny they have raised will go towards funding future missions,” he added.
