The story behind the sycamore seed
Generations of children have refered to the seeds as ‘helicopters’ as it is a fantastic description of the seeds as they fly, twist and drift in the wind. At The Air Ambulance Service we are proud to wear the iconic sycamore seed to remember and celebrate the life of a loved one.
We know that memories of our loved ones are precious and that sharing them is a gift we give.
That is why we want to help keep those memories flying. By joining us, creating a tribute page and sharing a memory your messages will be kept as flying sycamore seeds.
You will also be able to share your page with family and friends to create an on-going place for people to join together in memory of a loved one.
Since 2003 our helicopters have been flying and saving more lives in your local communities. We work 24 hours a day, 365 days a year and attend an average of 10 missions a day we have now completed over 50,000 missions.
We run two lifesaving services – Your Local Air Ambulance, covering 5 key counties in the centre of England, and the National Children’s Air Ambulance, which provides lifesaving transfers for critically ill children, babies and infants across the UK.
Plant a memorial tree to celebrate your loved ones’ life and support The Air Ambulance Service.
An In Memory, remembrance, sympathy or memorial tree is chosen to be planted as part of a larger woodland to commemorate loved ones no longer with us. There are often many varieties of trees to choose from, and they arrive in the form of a sapling, which are then planted by professional teams and nurtured to thrive.
Physical trees won’t be sent to you before planting, but you’ll be invited to visit the woodland and see your commemorative plaque with your chosen message that will be available to be seen by those who want to visit.
Our collaboration with The National Forest encourages a donation in exchange for tree planting to help keep our services flying.
We have three In Memory tree packages with different recommended donations for each.

These donations help us pay for the items included in each package, and enable us to continue the lifesaving services we provide on a daily basis.

The National Forest is a 200-square-mile area covering parts of Derbyshire and Leicestershire. It is a national exemplar of what can be achieved through tree planting; more than 8.5 million have been planted in the last 26 years.
Our remembrance woodland forms part of this fantastic project, and together, we are keeping memories flying. So you know your loved one’s memory will live on.
Please note that the site is unfortunately not easy to visit for those with limited mobility and the woodland is not accessible for wheelchair users due to it being a natural site with no surfaced paths. However, should anyone with restricted mobility wish to visit, please do get in touch with us in advance and we will do our best to accommodate a comfortable visit.
We can’t currently add on offline donations, but this is something we’re working on.

One off In Memory donations from individuals can be gift aided, if you are a UK tax payer. Unfortunately, funeral collections cannot be gift aided.
