A quick response 
to save Penny’s life
Last summer, a holiday to Whitby turned into a medical emergency for Penny, a 19-month-old toddler who had already faced a life-changing battle before. Less than a year earlier, at just 8 months old, Penny had undergone a lifesaving liver transplant at Birmingham Children’s Hospital. But as her family gathered for a relaxing summer break, Penny’s health suddenly took a turn for the worse.

Helimed53 were tasked to an industrial injury at 11:14 and were on scene at 11:29. The crew treated a patient with a hand injury before transferring them to hospital by land.
G-CPTZ crew worked alongside clinical partner team CoMET in the Midlands to transfer a patient in just 48mins. The same journey by road would have taken 2hrs 22mins.
Helimed54 were tasked to an RTC at 16:05 and were on scene at 16:20. Working alongside other services, the crew treated a patient, before they were transferred to hospital by land.
Helimed54 were tasked to a patient who had fallen at 08:51 and were on scene at 09:12. Working alongside EMAS, the crew treated a patient with an ankle injury, before they were conveyed to hospital by land.
Helimed54 were tasked to an RTC involving a pedestrian at 16:16 and were on scene at 16:26. The crew treated a patient, providing critical care interventions, before they were transferred to hospital by land.
Helimed54 were tasked to an agricultural trauma at 12:15 and were on scene at 12:30. Working alongside other services, the crew treated an injured patient, before they were conveyed to hospital by EMAS for further care.
Helimed54 were tasked to a medical trauma at 14:27 and were on scene at 14:51. Woking alongside EMAS, the crew treated a patient with an upper leg injury, before they were transferred to hospital by land.
Helimed54 were tasked to an RTC involving a motorcycle at 18:27 and were on scene at 18:40. The crew treated a patient before they were transferred to hospital by land.
Helimed54 were tasked to a leisure trauma involving a child at 09:13 and were on scene at 09:30. The crew treated the patient on scene, before airlifting them to hospital.
G-NICU crew worked alongside clinical partner team SoNAR in the South to transfer an incubator patient in just 58mins. The same journey by road would have taken 3hrs 14mins.
Helimed53 were tasked to an RTC involving a motorcyclist at 10:53 and were on scene at 11:12. Working alongside EMAS, the crew assessed and treated the patient on scene, before airlifting them to hospital.
G-NICU crew worked alongside clinical partner team SoNAR in the South to transfer a patient and their parent in just 23mins. The same journey by road would have taken 1hr 30mins.

In total, we fly 4 helicopters across the charity, 2x for our local service and 2x for our Children’s Air Ambulance. We also have 2x Critical Care Cars that support our HEMs services.
Our local service covers 5x counties; Warwickshire, Northamptonshire and Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Rutland.
The Children’s Air Ambulance covers the whole of the UK and works with 10 Clinical Partner Teams from various specialist hospitals.
We provide a rapid response to medical emergencies in the counties of Warwickshire, Northamptonshire and Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Rutland, however, we do support air ambulances further afield if we’re needed.
The Children’s Air Ambulance operates throughout the UK and works with Clinical Partner Teams from specialist hospitals.
