A quick response 
to save Penny’s life
Last summer, a holiday to Whitby turned into a medical emergency for Penny, a 19-month-old toddler who had already faced a life-changing battle before. Less than a year earlier, at just 8 months old, Penny had undergone a lifesaving liver transplant at Birmingham Children’s Hospital. But as her family gathered for a relaxing summer break, Penny’s health suddenly took a turn for the worse.

Medic54 were tasked to a medical emergency at 06:20 and were on scene at 06:30. The crew treated an unwell patient using critical care interventions, before conveying them to hospital by land.
Helimed53 were tasked to an RTC involving a child at 16:45 and were on scene at 17:00. The crew treated a patient, before transferring them to hospital by land.
Helimed54 were tasked to a sporting trauma at 14:14 and were on scene at 14:24. Working alongside other services, the crew treated a patient who had fallen from a horse, before they were transferred to hospital by land.
Helimed53 were tasked to an RTC at 16:38 and were on scene at 16:56. The crew treated a patient who had suffered a head injury, before escorting them to hospital by land.
Medic53 were tasked to a cardiac arrest at 11:25 and were on scene at 11:35. The crew treated a patient, before conveying them to hospital by land.
Helimed54 were tasked to a child who had fallen at 16:41 and were on scene at 17:00. The crew assessed an injured patient on scene before they were transferred to hospital by EMAS.
Helimed53 were tasked to an industrial injury at 10:46 and were on scene at 11:14. Landing in a nearby field, the crew worked alongside other services to treat an injured patient, before they were transferred to hospital by EMAS.
G-NICU crew worked alongside clinical partner team NWTS in the North to transfer a patient and their parent in just 1hr 15mins. The same journey by road would have taken 4hrs 43mins.
Helimed53 were tasked to a child who had fallen at 15:18 and were on scene at 15:31. Working alongside WMAS, the treated an injured patient, before they were conveyed to hospital by land for further treatment.
G-CPTZ crew worked alongside clinical partner team Embrace in the North to transfer a patient in just 35mins. The same journey by road would have taken 2hrs 10mins.
Helimed54 were tasked to a medical emergency at 09:46 and were on scene at 10:05. The crew treated a patient with breathing difficulties, before they were conveyed to hospital by land.
Medic54 were tasked to a cardiac arrest at 02:16 and were on scene at 02:40. The crew treated the patient, returning their spontaneous circulation, before conveying them to hospital by land.

In total, we fly 4 helicopters across the charity, 2x for our local service and 2x for our Children’s Air Ambulance. We also have 2x Critical Care Cars that support our HEMs services.
Our local service covers 5x counties; Warwickshire, Northamptonshire and Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Rutland.
The Children’s Air Ambulance covers the whole of the UK and works with 10 Clinical Partner Teams from various specialist hospitals.
We provide a rapid response to medical emergencies in the counties of Warwickshire, Northamptonshire and Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Rutland, however, we do support air ambulances further afield if we’re needed.
The Children’s Air Ambulance operates throughout the UK and works with Clinical Partner Teams from specialist hospitals.
