A quick response 
to save Penny’s life
Last summer, a holiday to Whitby turned into a medical emergency for Penny, a 19-month-old toddler who had already faced a life-changing battle before. Less than a year earlier, at just 8 months old, Penny had undergone a lifesaving liver transplant at Birmingham Children’s Hospital. But as her family gathered for a relaxing summer break, Penny’s health suddenly took a turn for the worse.

Helimed53 were tasked to a medical emergency at 10:24 and were on scene at 10:41. Landing at a golf course, the crew treated a patient, transferring them to hospital by land.
Helimed54 were tasked to an RTC involving a motorcycle at 17:28 and were on scene at 17:39. Working alongside other services, the crew treated two patients, airlifting one to hospital, while the other was conveyed by land.
Medic53 were tasked to a patient who had suffered burns at 18:58 and were on scene at 19:20. Working with other services, the crew treated the patient, before they were transferred to a burns centre by land.
Helimed54 were tasked to a cardiac arrest at 19:15 and were on scene at 19:40. Working alongside other services, the crew treated the patient, returning their spontaneous circulation, before conveying them to hospital by land.
Helimed53 were tasked to a medical incident at 10:15 and were on scene at 10:29. The crew treated a patient who was suffering from seizures, before transferring them to hospital by land.
Helimed53 were tasked to an RTC at 14:18 and were on scene at 14:33. The crew treated a patient, conveying them to hospital by land.
Helimed54 were tasked to a cardiac arrest at 16:33 and were on scene at17:00. Working alongside other services, the crew treated a patient following a return of their spontaneous circulation. The crew then escorted the patient as they were conveyed to hospital by land.
G-NICU crew worked alongside clinical partner team SoNAR in the South to transfer an incubator patient in just 20mins. The same journey by road would have taken 1hr 29mins.
G-NICU crew worked alongside clinical partner team ECMO in the Midlands to transfer an ECMO patient in just 1hr 57mins. The same journey by road would have taken 6hrs.
Helimed54 were tasked to an RTC at 15:31 and were on scene at 15:46. Working alongside other services, the crew treated a patient, who was conveyed to hospital by land.
Helimed53 were tasked to a patient who had fallen at 08:19 and were on scene at 08:40. The crew treated a patient, before airlifting them to hospital.
Helimed54 were tasked to a young patient who had suffered burns at 10:00 and were on scene at 10:15. Working alongside other services, the crew treated the patient, before they were conveyed to hospital by EMAS.

In total, we fly 4 helicopters across the charity, 2x for our local service and 2x for our Children’s Air Ambulance. We also have 2x Critical Care Cars that support our HEMs services.
Our local service covers 5x counties; Warwickshire, Northamptonshire and Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Rutland.
The Children’s Air Ambulance covers the whole of the UK and works with 10 Clinical Partner Teams from various specialist hospitals.
We provide a rapid response to medical emergencies in the counties of Warwickshire, Northamptonshire and Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Rutland, however, we do support air ambulances further afield if we’re needed.
The Children’s Air Ambulance operates throughout the UK and works with Clinical Partner Teams from specialist hospitals.
