A quick response 
to save Penny’s life
Last summer, a holiday to Whitby turned into a medical emergency for Penny, a 19-month-old toddler who had already faced a life-changing battle before. Less than a year earlier, at just 8 months old, Penny had undergone a lifesaving liver transplant at Birmingham Children’s Hospital. But as her family gathered for a relaxing summer break, Penny’s health suddenly took a turn for the worse.

Medic54 were tasked to a medical emergency at 07:01 and were on scene at 07:19. The crew provided medical support for a patient, treating them using critical care interventions, before they were conveyed to hospital by land.
G-NICU crew worked alongside clinical partner team STRS in the South to transfer a patient in just 32mins. The same journey by road would have taken 2hrs 5mins.
Helimed53 were tasked to a patient who had fallen at 16:15 and were on scene at 16:26. Landing in a local park, the crew treated the patient, who had suffered an abdominal injury, conveying them to hospital by land.
Medic54 were tasked to a medical emergency at 02:01 and were on scene at 02:22. The crew assessed and treated an unconscious patient, using anaesthetic, before conveying them to hospital by land.
Helimed53 were tasked to a medical emergency at 07:32 and were on scene at 07:34. The crew treated a patient who was suffering from seizures and had sustained a head injury, before they were conveyed to hospital by land.
Helimed53 were tasked to an RTC involving a motorcyclist at 17:34 and were on scene at 17:49. The crew treated an injured patient, before transferring them to hospital by land.
Helimed53 were tasked to an RTC involving multiple vehicles at 08:03 and were on scene at 08:25. The crew treated two patients, one of whom was discharged on scene, the other was conveyed to hospital by land.
Medic53 were tasked to a cardiac arrest at 09:52 and were on scene at 10:07, The crew treated a patient, transferring them to hospital by land.
Helimed53 were tasked to an RTC at 15:57 and were on scene at 16:14. Working alongside WMAS, the crew treated a patient, before transferring them to hospital by land.
Helimed54 were tasked to a medical emergency at 16:08 and were on scene at 16:20. Working alongside EMAS, the crew treated a patient, before conveying them to hospital by land.
G-NICU crew worked alongside clinical partner team SONeT in the South to transfer an incubator patient in just 50mins. The same journey by road would have taken 1hr 54mins.
Medic54 were tasked to a patient who had fallen at 20:02 and were on scene at 20:25. Working alongside other services, the crew treated the patient, who was transferred to hospital by land.

In total, we fly 4 helicopters across the charity, 2x for our local service and 2x for our Children’s Air Ambulance. We also have 2x Critical Care Cars that support our HEMs services.
Our local service covers 5x counties; Warwickshire, Northamptonshire and Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Rutland.
The Children’s Air Ambulance covers the whole of the UK and works with 10 Clinical Partner Teams from various specialist hospitals.
We provide a rapid response to medical emergencies in the counties of Warwickshire, Northamptonshire and Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Rutland, however, we do support air ambulances further afield if we’re needed.
The Children’s Air Ambulance operates throughout the UK and works with Clinical Partner Teams from specialist hospitals.
