A quick response 
to save Penny’s life
Last summer, a holiday to Whitby turned into a medical emergency for Penny, a 19-month-old toddler who had already faced a life-changing battle before. Less than a year earlier, at just 8 months old, Penny had undergone a lifesaving liver transplant at Birmingham Children’s Hospital. But as her family gathered for a relaxing summer break, Penny’s health suddenly took a turn for the worse.

G-NICU crew worked alongside clinical partner team Embrace in the North to transfer a patient in just 1hr 10mins. The same journey by road would have taken 3hrs 34mins.
Helimed54 were tasked to a road traffic collision in Blaby at 09:55 and were on scene at 10:11. The crew landed in a nearby park but were stood down at the scene after the patient was found to have minor injuries.
Helimed54 were tasked to a road traffic collision in Bourne at 14:12 and were on scene at 14:30. The crew landed in a nearby field and treated a patient following a vehicle rollover, airlifting them to hospital for further care.
Helimed54 were tasked to a fall in City of Derby at 11:40 and were on scene at 11:54. The crew treated a patient who was found unresponsive, delivering critical care interventions before they were transferred to hospital by land.
G-NICU crew worked alongside clinical partner team SONAR in the South to transfer an incubator patient and their parent in just 35mins. The same journey by road would have taken 2hrs 12mins.

Helimed53 were tasked to a cardiac arrest at 11:43 and were on scene at 11:50. Working alongside EMAS, the crew treated a patient, before conveying them to hospital by land.
Helimed54 were tasked to an RTC at 12:27 and were on scene at 12:43. The crew assessed and treated a patient, transferring them to hospital by land.
Helimed54 were tasked to an RTC at 15:34 and were on scene at 15:50. Working alongside EMAS, the crew treated a patient using advanced critical care skills, including administering anaesthetic. The patient was transferred to hospital by land.
Helimed54 were tasked to a leisure trauma at 13:19 and were on scene at 13:31. Working alongside other services, the crew assessed a patient, before they were transferred to hospital by EMAS.
Medic54 were tasked to a medical emergency at 15:05 and were on scene at 15:15. The crew used advanced specialist skills to treat the patient, including pre-hospital anaesthetic, before conveying them to hospital by land.
Medic54 were tasked to a medical emergency at 19:50 and were on scene at 20:20. Working alongside EMAS. The crew treated an unwell patient, before transferring them to hospital by land.

In total, we fly 4 helicopters across the charity, 2x for our local service and 2x for our Children’s Air Ambulance. We also have 2x Critical Care Cars that support our HEMs services.
Our local service covers 5x counties; Warwickshire, Northamptonshire and Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Rutland.
The Children’s Air Ambulance covers the whole of the UK and works with 10 Clinical Partner Teams from various specialist hospitals.
We provide a rapid response to medical emergencies in the counties of Warwickshire, Northamptonshire and Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Rutland, however, we do support air ambulances further afield if we’re needed.
The Children’s Air Ambulance operates throughout the UK and works with Clinical Partner Teams from specialist hospitals.
