A quick response 
to save Penny’s life
Last summer, a holiday to Whitby turned into a medical emergency for Penny, a 19-month-old toddler who had already faced a life-changing battle before. Less than a year earlier, at just 8 months old, Penny had undergone a lifesaving liver transplant at Birmingham Children’s Hospital. But as her family gathered for a relaxing summer break, Penny’s health suddenly took a turn for the worse.

Helimed53 were tasked to an RTC at 10:37 and were on scene at 10:53. The crew treated a patient, before conveying them to hospital by land.
Medic54 were tasked to a fall at 23:20 and were on scene at 23:41. The crew treated a patient who had fallen, transferring them to hospital by land.
Helimed54 were tasked to an RTC involving a motorcycle at 14:21 and were on scene at 14:34. The crew provided trauma care, before airlifting the patient to hospital.
Medic53 were tasked to a patient who had fallen at 17:19 and were on scene at 17:35. The crew treated an injured patient, conveying them to hospital by land.
Medic54 were tasked to a medical emergency at 18:31 and were on scene at 18:42. The crew treated a patient at scene, providing advanced critical care, before transferring them to hospital by land.
Medic54 were tasked to a cardiac arrest at 19:56 and were on scene at 20:04. The crew treated a patient, providing critical care interventions, before conveying them to hospital by land.
Medic54 were tasked to a cardiac arrest at 07:05 and were on scene at 07:43. The crew supported EMAS crews at the scene, providing critical care interventions, before conveying them to hospital by land.
G-NICU crew worked alongside clinical partner team Embrace in the North to transfer an incubator patient and their parent in just 2hrs. The same journey by road would have taken 5hrs 27mins.
Helimed54 were tasked to a medical emergency at 15:22 and were on scene at 15:33. The crew supported EMAS crews on scene to treat a patient suffering a seizure. Following on scene treatment, the crew transferred the patient to hospital by land.
Medic54 were tasked to a fall at 19:06 and were on scene at 19:29. The crew treated a patient on scene, before transferring them to hospital by land.
Medic53 were tasked to a patient with burns at 05:42 and were on scene at 06:42. Working alongside other services, the crew assisted in treating a patient, before they were transferred to hospital by land.
G-CPTZ crew worked alongside clinical partner team NWTS in the North to transfer a patient and their parent in just 1hr 21mins. The same journey by road would have taken 3hrs 43mins.

In total, we fly 4 helicopters across the charity, 2x for our local service and 2x for our Children’s Air Ambulance. We also have 2x Critical Care Cars that support our HEMs services.
Our local service covers 5x counties; Warwickshire, Northamptonshire and Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Rutland.
The Children’s Air Ambulance covers the whole of the UK and works with 10 Clinical Partner Teams from various specialist hospitals.
We provide a rapid response to medical emergencies in the counties of Warwickshire, Northamptonshire and Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Rutland, however, we do support air ambulances further afield if we’re needed.
The Children’s Air Ambulance operates throughout the UK and works with Clinical Partner Teams from specialist hospitals.
