A quick response  to save Penny’s life

Last summer, a holiday to Whitby turned into a medical emergency for Penny, a 19-month-old toddler who had already faced a life-changing battle before. Less than a year earlier, at just 8 months old, Penny had undergone a lifesaving liver transplant at Birmingham Children’s Hospital. But as her family gathered for a relaxing summer break, Penny’s health suddenly took a turn for the worse.

Working alongside ambulance service colleagues, the crew assisted in the treatment of a patient who had sustained a head injury following a fall before escorting them to Queen’s Medical Centre by land ambulance for further care.

Helimed54 were tasked to a road traffic collision in Sutton in Ashfield at 20:06 and were on scene at 20:21. Landing nearby, the crew worked alongside HART and EMAS colleagues to assess and treat a patient injured in the incident before they were left in the care of the ambulance service for onward transfer to hospital.
