A quick response 
to save Penny’s life
Last summer, a holiday to Whitby turned into a medical emergency for Penny, a 19-month-old toddler who had already faced a life-changing battle before. Less than a year earlier, at just 8 months old, Penny had undergone a lifesaving liver transplant at Birmingham Children’s Hospital. But as her family gathered for a relaxing summer break, Penny’s health suddenly took a turn for the worse.

Working alongside clinical partner team CoMET, the G-NICU crew and NCAA Airdesk team transferred a patient to George Eliot Hospital in just 1hr 4mins. The same journey by road would have taken 2hrs 56mins.
Helimed54 were tasked to a medical incident in Coalville at 06:20 and were on scene at 06:34. Working alongside ambulance service colleagues, the crew provided specialist support to a patient before escorting them to hospital by land ambulance for further assessment and treatment.
Helimed54 were tasked to an RTC in Groby at 14:50 and were on scene at 15:05. Working alongside EMAS, the crew assessed and treated a patient involved in a collision before they were left in the care of the ambulance service for onward transfer to hospital.
Medic54 were tasked to a medical emergency in Great Gonerby at 05:07 and were on scene at 05:32. The crew responded to support ambulance service colleagues before being stood down at scene when specialist critical care support was no longer required.
Helimed54 were tasked to a road traffic collision in West Northamptonshire at 16:11 and were on scene at 16:40. Working alongside ambulance service colleagues, the crew provided treatment at a large multi-vehicle collision before escorting a patient to hospital by land ambulance for further care.
Helimed54 were tasked to a medical emergency in Leicester at 10:13 and were on scene at 10:28. Following assessment of the situation, the crew were stood down at scene when specialist critical care support was no longer required.
Helimed54 were tasked to a medical incident in Northampton at 19:10 and were on scene at 19:31. Working alongside ambulance service colleagues, the crew provided support at the scene before the patient was left in the care of the ambulance service for onward treatment and assessment.
Medic53 were tasked to a fall incident in Coventry at 18:47 and were on scene at 18:56. Working alongside ambulance service colleagues, the crew assessed and treated a patient before transferring them to hospital by land ambulance for further care.
Helimed54 were tasked to an RTC in Coventry at 09:26 and were on scene at 09:46. Working alongside WMAS, the crew assessed a patient involved in a collision before they were left in the care of the ambulance service for onward transfer to hospital.

In total, we fly 4 helicopters across the charity, 2x for our local service and 2x for our Children’s Air Ambulance. We also have 2x Critical Care Cars that support our HEMs services.
Our local service covers 5x counties; Warwickshire, Northamptonshire and Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Rutland.
The Children’s Air Ambulance covers the whole of the UK and works with 10 Clinical Partner Teams from various specialist hospitals.
We provide a rapid response to medical emergencies in the counties of Warwickshire, Northamptonshire and Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Rutland, however, we do support air ambulances further afield if we’re needed.
The Children’s Air Ambulance operates throughout the UK and works with Clinical Partner Teams from specialist hospitals.
