A quick response 
to save Penny’s life
Last summer, a holiday to Whitby turned into a medical emergency for Penny, a 19-month-old toddler who had already faced a life-changing battle before. Less than a year earlier, at just 8 months old, Penny had undergone a lifesaving liver transplant at Birmingham Children’s Hospital. But as her family gathered for a relaxing summer break, Penny’s health suddenly took a turn for the worse.

Helimed54 were tasked to an incident in Arnold at 10:23 and were on scene at 10:38. Working alongside local ambulance service colleagues, the crew provided specialist support at the scene.
Helimed53 were tasked to an industrial incident in Harborough at 11:44 and were on scene at 12:05. The crew provided specialist assessment and treatment before they were left in the care of the ambulance service for onward transfer to hospital.
Helimed53 were tasked to a medical emergency in Birmingham at 12:49 and were on scene at 12:58. Following assessment of the situation, the crew were stood down when specialist critical care support was no longer required.
Helimed54 were tasked to an RTC in Loughborough at 15:32 and were on scene at 15:42. The crew assessed the situation before they were left in the care of the ambulance service for onward transfer to hospital.
Helimed54 were tasked to a medical emergency in Whissendine at 17:20 and were on scene at 17:35. The crew provided specialist assessment before they were left in the care of the ambulance service for onward transfer to hospital.
Medic54 were tasked to an incident in Blaby at 21:17 and were on scene at 21:45. Working alongside local ambulance service colleagues, the crew provided specialist support before the patients remained in the care of the ambulance service.
Helimed53 were tasked to a medical incident in Broughton Astley at 18:28 and were on scene at 18:41. The crew landed in a nearby housing estate, assisted the East Midlands Ambulance Service with the care of a medically unwell patient, before leaving the patient with another service.
Working alongside clinical partner team STRS, the G-CPTZ crew and NCAA Airdesk team transferred a patient and their parent to Great Ormond Street Hospital in just 1hr 8mins. The same journey by road would have taken 3hrs 42mins.
Helimed53 were tasked to an RTC in Melton at 08:14 and were on scene at 08:36. Following assessment of the situation, the crew were stood down when specialist critical care support was no longer required.
Helimed53 were tasked to a medical emergency in Lichfield at 09:02 and were on scene at 09:10. Following assessment of the situation, the crew were stood down when specialist critical care support was no longer required.
Helimed54 were tasked to a medical emergency in Staveley at 10:30 and were on scene at 10:43. Following assessment of the situation, the crew were stood down when specialist critical care support was no longer required.
Helimed54 were tasked to a medical emergency in Derby at 14:33 and were on scene at 14:51. Following assessment of the situation, the crew were stood down when specialist critical care support was no longer required.

In total, we fly 4 helicopters across the charity, 2x for our local service and 2x for our Children’s Air Ambulance. We also have 2x Critical Care Cars that support our HEMs services.
Our local service covers 5x counties; Warwickshire, Northamptonshire and Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Rutland.
The Children’s Air Ambulance covers the whole of the UK and works with 10 Clinical Partner Teams from various specialist hospitals.
We provide a rapid response to medical emergencies in the counties of Warwickshire, Northamptonshire and Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Rutland, however, we do support air ambulances further afield if we’re needed.
The Children’s Air Ambulance operates throughout the UK and works with Clinical Partner Teams from specialist hospitals.
