A quick response 
to save Penny’s life
Last summer, a holiday to Whitby turned into a medical emergency for Penny, a 19-month-old toddler who had already faced a life-changing battle before. Less than a year earlier, at just 8 months old, Penny had undergone a lifesaving liver transplant at Birmingham Children’s Hospital. But as her family gathered for a relaxing summer break, Penny’s health suddenly took a turn for the worse.

Helimed53 were tasked to a sporting incident in West Northamptonshire at 11:07 and were on scene at 11:24. The crew responded to reports of a patient injured following a fall from a horse before being stood down at scene.
The G-CPTZ crew, alongside the NCAA Airdesk team, worked with clinical partner team Embrace in the North to complete an incubator transfer to Manchester in 1hr 34mins. The same journey by road would have taken 4hrs 52mins.
Working alongside clinical partner team SoNAR in the South, the G-NICU crew and NCAA Airdesk team transferred a patient and their parent to Barnstaple in just 43mins. The same journey by road would have taken 2hrs 25mins.
The G-NICU crew, supported by the NCAA Airdesk team, worked alongside clinical partner team SoNAR in the South to complete an incubator transfer to Plymouth in just 52mins. The same journey by road would have taken 2hrs 16mins.
Working with clinical partner team CoMET in the Midlands, the G-NICU crew and NCAA Airdesk team transferred a patient to Glasgow in 2hrs 26mins, including a refuel stop en route. The same journey by road would have taken 5hrs 18mins.
The G-CPTZ crew, alongside the NCAA Airdesk team, worked with clinical partner team Embrace in the North to transfer a patient and their parent to Manchester in just 45mins. The same journey by road would have taken 2hrs 15mins.
Working alongside clinical partner team SONeT in the South, the G-NICU crew and NCAA Airdesk team completed an incubator transfer to the Isle of Wight in just 11mins. The same journey by road would have taken 1hr 33mins.
Working with clinical partner team NWTS in the North, the G-NICU crew and NCAA Airdesk team transferred a patient to Liverpool in 1hr 12mins. The same journey by road would have taken 3hrs 56mins.
The G-NICU crew, alongside the NCAA Airdesk team, worked with clinical partner team ECMO in the Midlands to complete a specialist patient transfer to Leicester in just 45mins. The same journey by road would have taken 2hrs 38mins.
