A quick response 
to save Penny’s life
Last summer, a holiday to Whitby turned into a medical emergency for Penny, a 19-month-old toddler who had already faced a life-changing battle before. Less than a year earlier, at just 8 months old, Penny had undergone a lifesaving liver transplant at Birmingham Children’s Hospital. But as her family gathered for a relaxing summer break, Penny’s health suddenly took a turn for the worse.

Medic54 were tasked to an RTC in Derby at 03:39 and were on scene at 03:59. Working alongside EMAS, the crew provided advanced critical care interventions to a patient with serious injuries before transferring them to hospital by land ambulance for specialist treatment.
Helimed54 were tasked to a sporting and leisure-related incident in Bassetlaw at 11:11 and were on scene at 11:26. Working alongside EMAS, the crew assessed and treated a patient who had been injured while horse riding, providing pain relief before leaving them in the care of the ambulance service for onward treatment.
Medic54 were tasked to a medical emergency in East Leake at 22:21 and were on scene at 22:40. Working alongside EMAS, the crew provided specialist support to a patient experiencing a medical emergency before treatment was completed at the scene.
Medic54 were tasked to a trauma incident in Nottingham at 21:51 and were on scene at 22:08. Working alongside EMAS, the crew provided advanced critical care interventions to a patient with serious injuries before transferring them to hospital by land ambulance for specialist treatment.
Helimed54 were tasked to a trauma incident in Melton Mowbray at 18:25 and were on scene at 18:37. Working alongside EMAS, the crew assessed and treated a patient with serious injuries before they were left in the care of the ambulance service for onward transfer to hospital.
Medic54 were tasked to a medical incident in Derby at 01:34 and were on scene at 01:58. Working alongside EMAS, the crew provided specialist care to a patient before escorting them to hospital by land ambulance for further assessment and treatment.
Helimed53 were tasked to a sporting and leisure-related incident at 15:56 and were on scene at 16:07. Working alongside ambulance service colleagues, the crew provided advanced critical care interventions to a patient following a light aircraft crash before transferring them to University Hospital Coventry and Warwickshire by air for specialist treatment.
Helimed54 were tasked to a medical emergency in Loughborough at 16:48 and were on scene at 17:02. Following assessment of the situation, the crew were stood down at scene when specialist critical care support was no longer required.
Helimed53 were tasked to a road traffic collision in Baxterley at 08:49 and were on scene at 09:04. Working alongside ambulance service colleagues, the crew assessed and treated a patient involved in a collision before transferring them to hospital by land ambulance for further care.
Helimed54 were tasked to an industrial and agricultural trauma incident in Cossall at 20:10. After arriving in the area, the crew were stood down when specialist critical care support was no longer required and care was being provided by other emergency service colleagues.
Helimed54 were tasked to a road traffic collision at 11:23. Working alongside EMAS, the crew assessed and treated a patient involved in a rollover collision before they were left in the care of the ambulance service for onward transfer to hospital.
Medic53 were tasked to a road traffic collision at 13:03 and were on scene shortly afterwards. Working alongside WMAS, the crew assessed and treated a patient involved in a collision before they were left in the care of the ambulance service for onward transfer to hospital.

In total, we fly 4 helicopters across the charity, 2x for our local service and 2x for our Children’s Air Ambulance. We also have 2x Critical Care Cars that support our HEMs services.
Our local service covers 5x counties; Warwickshire, Northamptonshire and Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Rutland.
The Children’s Air Ambulance covers the whole of the UK and works with 10 Clinical Partner Teams from various specialist hospitals.
We provide a rapid response to medical emergencies in the counties of Warwickshire, Northamptonshire and Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Rutland, however, we do support air ambulances further afield if we’re needed.
The Children’s Air Ambulance operates throughout the UK and works with Clinical Partner Teams from specialist hospitals.
