A quick response 
to save Penny’s life
Last summer, a holiday to Whitby turned into a medical emergency for Penny, a 19-month-old toddler who had already faced a life-changing battle before. Less than a year earlier, at just 8 months old, Penny had undergone a lifesaving liver transplant at Birmingham Children’s Hospital. But as her family gathered for a relaxing summer break, Penny’s health suddenly took a turn for the worse.

Helimed54 were tasked to a medical emergency in Rutland at 13:33 and were on scene at 13:46. Working alongside ambulance service colleagues, the crew provided advanced critical care interventions to a patient before escorting them to Leicester Royal Infirmary by land ambulance for further specialist treatment.
Helimed54 were tasked to a medical emergency in South Derbyshire at 07:53 and were on scene at 08:09. Working alongside ambulance service colleagues, the crew provided advanced critical care interventions to a patient following a cardiac arrest before escorting them to hospital by land ambulance for further specialist treatment.
Working alongside clinical partner team WATCh, the G-NICU crew and NCAA Airdesk team transferred a patient and their parent to Great Ormond Street in just 51mins. The same journey by road would have taken 3hrs 14mins.
Helimed53 were tasked to a fall incident in Brackley at 12:09 and were on scene at 12:24. Working alongside ambulance service colleagues, the crew provided specialist care to a patient with a reduced level of consciousness following a fall before transferring them to hospital by land ambulance for further treatment.
Helimed54 were tasked to a road traffic collision in Mickley at 17:24 and were on scene at 17:37. Working alongside emergency service colleagues, the crew assessed and treated a patient injured in a collision before escorting them to Queen’s Medical Centre by land ambulance for further treatment.
Helimed54 were tasked to an industrial and agricultural trauma incident in Rutland at 13:53 and were on scene at 14:05. Working alongside local responders and EMAS, the crew supported patient care at the scene before handing over to the ambulance service for onward transfer to a Major Trauma Centre.
Helimed53 were tasked to a medical emergency in Donisthorpe at 14:40 and were on scene at 14:57. Working alongside EMAS, the crew assessed and treated a patient before they were left in the care of the ambulance service for onward transfer to hospital.
Helimed54 were tasked to a road traffic collision in Derby at 09:59 and were on scene at 10:15. Working alongside EMAS, the crew assessed and treated a patient involved in the incident before they were left in the care of the ambulance service for onward transfer to hospital.
Helimed54 were tasked to a sporting and leisure-related incident in Charnwood at 11:50 and were on scene at 12:00. Working alongside EMAS, the crew assessed and treated a patient who had sustained injuries following a fall from a horse before they were left in the care of the ambulance service for onward treatment.
Helimed54 were tasked to an industrial and agricultural trauma incident in Newark and Sherwood at 13:42 and were on scene at 13:59. Working alongside EMAS, the crew assessed and treated a patient injured in an agricultural incident before they were left in the care of the ambulance service for onward treatment.
Helimed54 were tasked to a medical emergency in Nottingham at 19:22 and were on scene at 19:37. Following assessment of the situation, the crew were stood down at scene when specialist critical care support was no longer required.
Medic54 were tasked to a medical emergency in Derby at 22:03 and were on scene at 22:27. Working alongside EMAS, the crew provided advanced critical care interventions to a patient who had collapsed suddenly before transferring them to Queen’s Medical Centre by land ambulance for specialist treatment.

In total, we fly 4 helicopters across the charity, 2x for our local service and 2x for our Children’s Air Ambulance. We also have 2x Critical Care Cars that support our HEMs services.
Our local service covers 5x counties; Warwickshire, Northamptonshire and Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Rutland.
The Children’s Air Ambulance covers the whole of the UK and works with 10 Clinical Partner Teams from various specialist hospitals.
We provide a rapid response to medical emergencies in the counties of Warwickshire, Northamptonshire and Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Rutland, however, we do support air ambulances further afield if we’re needed.
The Children’s Air Ambulance operates throughout the UK and works with Clinical Partner Teams from specialist hospitals.
