A quick response 
to save Penny’s life
Last summer, a holiday to Whitby turned into a medical emergency for Penny, a 19-month-old toddler who had already faced a life-changing battle before. Less than a year earlier, at just 8 months old, Penny had undergone a lifesaving liver transplant at Birmingham Children’s Hospital. But as her family gathered for a relaxing summer break, Penny’s health suddenly took a turn for the worse.

Medic53 were tasked to an incident in North Northamptonshire at 05:02 and were on scene at 05:38. The crew attended a patient following a road traffic collision before conveying them by land to University Hospital Coventry and Warwickshire.
Helimed54 were tasked to an incident in Scarrington at 06:39 and were on scene at 06:53. The crew attended a cyclist who had been found next to their bicycle before escorting the patient by land to Queen’s Medical Centre.
Helimed53 were tasked to a medical incident in Stratford-upon-Avon at 13:28 and were on scene at 13:40. The crew attended a patient in cardiac arrest.
Helimed53 were tasked to an incident in Harborough at 19:04 and were on scene at 19:08. The crew attended the incident before leaving the patient with another service.
Medic53 were tasked to an incident in Coventry at 00:26 and were on scene at 00:43. The crew attended a patient and provided emergency medical care before escorting them by land to hospital.
Helimed54 were tasked to a medical incident in Nottingham at 17:03 and were on scene at 17:20. The crew attended a patient following a choking incident and cardiac arrest before the patient was left with the ambulance service for conveyance to Queen’s Medical Centre.
Helimed53 were tasked to a trauma incident in Tamworth at 14:43 and were on scene at 14:52. The crew attended a patient with a head injury following a fall from a bicycle.
Helimed53 were tasked to a road traffic collision in Harborough at 10:20 and were on scene at 10:29. The crew attended a road traffic collision involving multiple patients.
Helimed54 were tasked to a medical incident in North West Leicestershire at 14:40 and were on scene at 14:54. The crew attended a medically unwell patient, provided critical care interventions, and transferred the patient by air to Royal Derby Hospital.
Helimed54 were tasked to assist Helimed53 at a multi-patient road traffic collision in Harborough at 10:52 and were on scene at 11:11. The crew provided critical care interventions before escorting a patient by land to University Hospital Coventry and Warwickshire.
Medic53 were tasked to an incident in Coventry at 21:05 and were on scene at 21:15. On arrival, the crew were informed that their specialist support was no longer required.
Medic54 were tasked to a medical incident in Newbold Verdon at 21:14 and were on scene at 21:35. The crew attended a patient in cardiac arrest where a return of spontaneous circulation (ROSC) had been achieved.

In total, we fly 4 helicopters across the charity, 2x for our local service and 2x for our Children’s Air Ambulance. We also have 2x Critical Care Cars that support our HEMs services.
Our local service covers 5x counties; Warwickshire, Northamptonshire and Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Rutland.
The Children’s Air Ambulance covers the whole of the UK and works with 10 Clinical Partner Teams from various specialist hospitals.
We provide a rapid response to medical emergencies in the counties of Warwickshire, Northamptonshire and Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Rutland, however, we do support air ambulances further afield if we’re needed.
The Children’s Air Ambulance operates throughout the UK and works with Clinical Partner Teams from specialist hospitals.
