A quick response 
to save Penny’s life
Last summer, a holiday to Whitby turned into a medical emergency for Penny, a 19-month-old toddler who had already faced a life-changing battle before. Less than a year earlier, at just 8 months old, Penny had undergone a lifesaving liver transplant at Birmingham Children’s Hospital. But as her family gathered for a relaxing summer break, Penny’s health suddenly took a turn for the worse.

Helimed53 were tasked to an incident in Kibworth Beauchamp at 10:20 and were on scene at 10:36. The crew attended a patient following a collapse in a public street.
Helimed54 were tasked to a road traffic collision in Leicester at 17:02 and were on scene at 17:21. The crew assisted the East Midlands Ambulance Service with the care of a patient who had been hit by a car before leaving the patient with the ambulance crew.
Helimed54 were tasked to a fall in the Peak District at 12:35 and were on scene at 13:20. The crew treated the patient with the assistance of mountain rescue before flying them to Manchester Royal Infirmary.
Helimed54 were tasked to a road traffic collision in High Peak at 10:10 and were on scene at 10:28. The crew attended a motorcyclist involved in a collision, assisted the East Midlands Ambulance Service, and transferred the patient by air to Manchester Royal Infirmary.
Helimed54 were tasked to a medical incident in Sutton in Ashfield at 07:43 and were on scene at 08:05. The crew attended a patient in cardiac arrest, provided advanced critical care, and transferred the patient by air to Sheffield.
Helimed54 were tasked to a medical incident in Derby at 18:03 and were on scene at 18:15. The crew attended a patient in cardiac arrest, provided critical care following a return of spontaneous circulation, and escorted the patient by land to Royal Derby Hospital.
Helimed53 were tasked to an incident in Bidford-on-Avon at 21:01 and were on scene at 21:15. The crew attended the incident before escorting the patient by land to University Hospital Coventry and Warwickshire.
Medic54 were tasked to a burns incident in Bagworth at 22:12 and were on scene at 22:38. The crew attended a patient with significant burns before escorting the patient by land to Queen’s Medical Centre.
Helimed53 were tasked to a trauma incident in North West Leicestershire at 17:26 and were on scene at 17:43. The crew attended an agitated patient, supported their care, and left the patient with the ambulance crew for conveyance to hospital.
Helimed53 were tasked to a medical incident in West Northamptonshire at 14:12 and were on scene at 14:30. The crew landed in Salcey Forest and attended a patient in cardiac arrest before transferring the patient by air to hospital.
Medic54 were tasked to an incident in Derby at 23:38 and were on scene at 00:01. The crew assisted the East Midlands Ambulance Service with the care of a patient.
Medic53 were tasked to an incident in Royal Sutton Coldfield at 00:34 and were on scene at 00:58. The crew attended the incident but had no critical care required.

In total, we fly 4 helicopters across the charity, 2x for our local service and 2x for our Children’s Air Ambulance. We also have 2x Critical Care Cars that support our HEMs services.
Our local service covers 5x counties; Warwickshire, Northamptonshire and Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Rutland.
The Children’s Air Ambulance covers the whole of the UK and works with 10 Clinical Partner Teams from various specialist hospitals.
We provide a rapid response to medical emergencies in the counties of Warwickshire, Northamptonshire and Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Rutland, however, we do support air ambulances further afield if we’re needed.
The Children’s Air Ambulance operates throughout the UK and works with Clinical Partner Teams from specialist hospitals.
