It’s every parent’s nightmare. Daisy Rughoobeer, just seven years old, was on her way downstairs when she suddenly lost her footing and slipped, falling the rest of the way and hitting her head on the corner of a wooden radiator cover.

Mum Claire and dad Danny rushed to the scene after hearing the commotion.

Daisy had sustained a serious laceration to her scalp. It was 8-10cm long and went all the way down to the skull.

Danny said: “As you can imagine with such a deep head wound, there was blood everywhere.”

They immediately rang 999. Within minutes, Warwickshire & Northamptonshire Air Ambulance was at the scene to provide help to little Daisy.

They cleaned and bandaged her head, then flew her straight away to University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire.

She was soon on the road to recovery. Staff at the hospital stitched her head back together with dissolvable stitches, and although she had to return to hospital a month after the incident to check on her progress, Daisy is back to her happy, healthy self.

“We were just so impressed with the response of the team and the emergency services in general. From our initial 999 phone call, I think the air ambulance were with us within 20 minutes or so. They landed yards from our house and were so calm and reassuring.”
