Derbyshire local walks to Skegness to help support lifesaving charity

A Derbyshire local has walked from Shirebrook in Derbyshire to Skegness in Lincolnshire to raise vital funds to support the lifesaving missions of the Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Rutland Air Ambulance (DLRAA).

David Cheeseman, along with a group of friends walked from his hometown in Shirebrook to Skegness – a total of seventy-eight miles. They completed their incredible challenge in three and a half days, raising a total of £1,020 to support the charity’s lifesaving missions in Derbyshire and further afield.

“I wanted to support the Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Rutland Air Ambulance as they are an amazing local charity that doesn’t receive government or National Lottery funding and rely on donations to keep their helicopters flying,” said David Cheeseman.

“We hope we will never need the charity, but I know with support just like this from the local community they would be there if we ever needed them,” he added.

The Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Rutland Air Ambulance crews deliver critical care at road traffic collisions, sports events, medical emergencies – such as cardiac arrest and accidents at home – and other incidents needing expert pre-hospital medical interventions.

They receive no government or National Lottery funding for their lifesaving missions and rely on the local community and businesses to help them raise the much needed £2,300 for each mission.

Tracey Jones, Community Fundraising Executive for Derbyshire said:

“On behalf of the charity I would like to say thank you to David and his friends for taking on this amazing challenge to support our lifesaving missions.”

“We rely on support just like this to keep our crews providing pre-hospital critical care 24/7, 365 days a year,” she expressed.
