John's story
John spent his early and happy childhood growing up in Gloucestershire prior to returning to Coventry in 1945, after the war.
Coventry is where John and Mo Burgess met. Whilst dancing to Elvis Presley and Bill Hayley at Alf and Ettie’s Dance School on The Holyhead Road. Mo informed John that she did not fall in love with him. It was his blue tie that she liked – as blue was her favourite colour.
On the 29th July 1961 John and Mo, 22 and 19 respectfully, were married at The Parish Church of Saint Laurence’s (Old Church Road) Their first born son (Mark) was followed by a daughter Lynsey and latterly grand-daughter Lea.
John worked at Peugeot Talbot for over 25 years, where he made a donation to the Air Ambulance Service (every month), throughout his entire career and even thereafter. The family requested that no flowers were sent to John’s funeral and alternatively requested donations to the Air Ambulance Service. John experienced a brain haemorrhage in 1985, consequently taking early retirement.
Mo and John enjoyed holidays in the Pyrenees for many years. Only to return year after year to meet old and new friends.
New friends were also made by John at the Tea and Talk Club which he attended every Monday. In which to participate in activities and outings. Outings that John especially enjoyed were going out to lunch with the Tea and Talk Club for a pub lunch.
John was also an avid supporter of The Coventry Bees (a motorcycle speedway team), formerly based at Brandon near Coventry. His favourite speedway riders were Nigel Boocock and Ole Olson.
As time went by John especially enjoyed reading his newspaper and watching television in the lounge, whilst sitting in his favourite chair by the window. Where it was a competition who would get the seat first, John or Snowdrop (the cat).

Dear Dad "Happy Father's Day" for Sunday 21st June 2026. So sorry that I did not make the donation on the actual day. I was at work in the morning and then in the afternoon I took Mum to Canley Crematorium to put roses on your grave and to wish you "Happy Father's Day." Hope that is alright with you?
Mum and myself told you that we miss you lots and we both wish that you were here. It is now nearly six years that you went to heaven, but it only seems like yesterday. God bless you Dad. Lots of love Lynsey xxx

Your best friend - Peter Loft passed away on Saturday 13th September 2025. Please can you welcome him into heaven and be his friend in heaven too.
We went to see you at the crematorium today. Apologies for not going on Christmas Day, but Mark took Mum to the Village Hotel for Christmas dinner. They left at 12:30hrs and did not get home until 15:30hrs. Did not want to take Mum out into the coldness and darkness at that time of day. Sincerely hope you understand.

Dear Dad just wanted to wish you and Mum a "Happy Anniversary" for Tuesday 29th July 2025 and a "Happy Birthday" for Wednesday 30th July 2025. I bet you already know that you and Mum have been married for 64 years. It is OK Dad I bought Mum an anniversary card, flowers and chocolates from you (you know which chocolates I mean, just to save me running downstairs to look how they are spelt again). Today Dad you are 87 years young. (I can hear you say "bloody Hell I can't be that old"). Mum and myself have both bought you a birthday card and put it on the mantlepiece. "Happy Father's Day" for Sunday 15th June 2025 Dad. We still miss you every day and it seems that when you passed on the 10/11/2020 - that this date was only yesterday. Mum and myself have bought you Father's Day cards and put them on the mantlepiece. Today I am taking Mum and Auntie Del to Kenilworth Open Gardens. I will park the car where you and mum used to park in memory of you. As I know that you and Mum loved to visit Kenilworth and visit the Rocking Horse Cafe for a cup of tea and a piece of cake. We love you very much Dad. Please take care in heaven.

Dear Dad wishing you "Merry Christmas" for Wednesday 25th December 2024. Mum and myself went to the crematorium about 2 weeks ago to put a holly wreath on your grave. But we thought it was really important to wish you "Merry Christmas" today and so we went to the crematorium today and left a Ferrero Rocher chocolate tucked into the holly wreath. Dear Dad. So sorry the e-mail is late. My computer was not working. Just wanted to wish you a "Happy Birthday" for Tuesday 30th July 2024. Guess what Dad you are 86 years of age (blimey that's old). Also "congratulations on your wedding anniversary" on the Monday 29th July 2024. Dear Dad. Well today is your birthday and I just wanted to wish you "happy birthday" for Sunday 30th July 2023. Can you believe that you are 85 years old today (but we will pretend that you are only 58 years old). Yesterday was Saturday 29th July 2023 and it was your wedding anniversary. Mum and myself worked it out and you have both been married for 62 years. Please do not worry Dad I bought Mum a card, a bouquet of flowers and a box of chocolates from you. Hello Dad. Just wanted to wish you "Happy Birthday" for Saturday 30th July 2022. Well Dad you will be 84 years old today, but I know what you are like and we will pretend that you are really 48 years old. Hope you did not forget your wedding anniversary yesterday? You and Mum have been married for 61 years. Bought Mum flowers and a card from you (photocopied your signature from an old card). For your birthday I bought you a card and your favourite chocolates.
