Hugh's story
Hugh was born in Warrington in 1944, somewhat later than his 4 older siblings and rather unexpectedly. He lived through a time of immense change, politically and socially, but throughout that retained a drive to be silly, perhaps due to the Goon Show which he loved.
He met Lynda in 1966, they married in 1967 and Graeme came along in 1970, followed by Jonathan in 1973.
Hugh worked in the steel industry after leaving school in 1960, then for a few years moved to Kent to work at Sheerness Steel. In the mid 70s he and the family moved back to Irlam, near Manchester, and he stayed there until he retired in 2009.
Dad and Mum moved to Loughborough in 2010 so they were nearer to their assorted grandkids, to whom they were a fixed point in their weeks due to pickups on specific days.
When Mum died in 2025, Dad seemed to be coping OK but in the early part of 2026 he had a chest infection and that ultimately took him away.
Dad was a very unassuming man, yet warm and profound in his friendships. He led both of his children to have a lifelong curiosity about how things work, also with regard to wildlife and he never refused to answer a "Dad, how does....?" question.
Hell be sorely missed by his family, friends, and acquaintances.
