Gillian McDonald (nee Wear) was born on 2nd May 1956 in Butcombe in North Somerset, growing up on her parents’ farm. She trained as a maternity nurse in the UK before emigrating to Australia after meeting her husband, Peter McDonald. Both in her early professional life, and in her role as a mum, grandma, auntie, great auntie and friend, she had a fantastic connection with children and adored caring for them. Sadly, she passed away suddenly on 20th December in Wingham, New South Wales, aged 67. She was full of life, vibrant, fun and kind, and is deeply missed by all her family and friends. She was a regular visitor the UK, spending time here every year in recent years and with many connections in Somerset, including her beloved 96-year-old mum Mary and sister Chris. In addition to contributing to her favourite charities in Australia, husband Peter and her children Kate and Philip wanted to recognize this connection to the UK by making a donation to two British charities in her memory. They have chosen the Children’s Air Ambulance as one of these.Remembered by Caroline Prodger
