Alistair's story
We have chosen 3 charities close to Dad's heart for any kind donations made in his memory, and want to share with you a little of the background to how we came to choose each one. As many of you know, Dad was picked up by the wonderful air ambulance team after his accident, and their excellent care (and that of the bystanders and paramedics) meant that we got 24 precious hours to say goodbye. Dad / Alistair (also, most importantly, Grandpa) was at the pioneering forefront of roadside medical care throughout his 54 year career with the NHS, nearly 30 of those he spent as an A&E Consultant in Derby - a career we are all so immensely proud of, and one which he loved. He was one of the founders of the “flying squad” - medical personnel who attended road traffic accidents to attend to patients at that critical time ( as originally ambulance drivers were drivers and not medically trained, he was one of the pioneers in taking trained personnel out to the scenes of accidents etc) and regularly attended incidents at all times of the day and night for many years, saving and helping a countless number of lives over the years.
Dad felt so passionately about roadside medical care and ironically also benefited from it in the end, and so did we as a family, so donating to this charity in his name so that others will benefit too is just what he would have wanted.

There is now a big Alistair shaped hole in Derby, but his legacy will remain with us.
You will be sadly missed R I P

Alistair was a very special person both for his medical work, as a friend who would always help in any way he could, a valuable member of St. Alkmund,s, Duffield Church Family, but perhaps especially for his Hospital Emergency Flying Squad work and his huge contribution to the A & E Department. It is entirely fitting that we should be able to support Air Ambulance in his memory.
