A quick response 
to save Penny’s life
Last summer, a holiday to Whitby turned into a medical emergency for Penny, a 19-month-old toddler who had already faced a life-changing battle before. Less than a year earlier, at just 8 months old, Penny had undergone a lifesaving liver transplant at Birmingham Children’s Hospital. But as her family gathered for a relaxing summer break, Penny’s health suddenly took a turn for the worse.

Helimed53 were tasked to a medical emergency in Hatton at 16:33 and were on scene at 16:46. The crew attended the incident and provided assessment at the scene.
Helimed53 were tasked to a road traffic collision in Yardley Hastings at 17:31 and were on scene at 17:45. The crew assessed and managed a patient involved in the collision before transferring them by air to hospital for further treatment.
Working alongside clinical partner team WATCh, the G-CTPZ crew and NCAA Airdesk team transferred a patient to Bristol Royal Hospital for Children in just 36mins. The same journey by road would have taken 2hrs 31mins.
Medic53 were tasked to a medical emergency in Coventry at 05:53 and were on scene at 06:07. The crew attended the incident and provided assessment at the scene
Helimed54 were tasked to a road traffic collision in North Northamptonshire at 10:56 and were on scene at 11:17. Landing nearby, the crew assisted with the assessment and care of a patient before they were left in the care of the ambulance service for onward transfer to hospital.
Helimed54 were tasked to a road traffic collision in Nottingham at 12:43 and were on scene at 12:54. The crew attended a patient who had been struck by a car and assisted the ambulance service before escorting the patient to hospital by land ambulance for further treatment.
Helimed54 were tasked to a sporting and leisure trauma incident in Derby at 16:06 and were on scene at 16:20. The crew assisted the ambulance service with the care of a patient before escorting them to hospital by land ambulance for further treatment.
Helimed53 were tasked to a medical emergency in Ibstock at 09:15 and were on scene at 09:28. The crew attended a patient experiencing a cardiac arrest before escorting them by land ambulance to Glenfield Hospital for further treatment.
Medic53 were tasked to a medical emergency in Birmingham at 22:03 and were on scene at 22:28. The crew assisted with the care of an unwell child before escorting the patient to hospital by land ambulance for further treatment
Helimed53 were tasked to a fall incident in Northampton at 18:21 and were on scene at 18:40. The crew provided critical care interventions before escorting a patient by road to University Hospital Coventry and Warwickshire for further treatment.

In total, we fly 4 helicopters across the charity, 2x for our local service and 2x for our Children’s Air Ambulance. We also have 2x Critical Care Cars that support our HEMs services.
Our local service covers 5x counties; Warwickshire, Northamptonshire and Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Rutland.
The Children’s Air Ambulance covers the whole of the UK and works with 10 Clinical Partner Teams from various specialist hospitals.
We provide a rapid response to medical emergencies in the counties of Warwickshire, Northamptonshire and Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Rutland, however, we do support air ambulances further afield if we’re needed.
The Children’s Air Ambulance operates throughout the UK and works with Clinical Partner Teams from specialist hospitals.
