A quick response 
to save Penny’s life
Last summer, a holiday to Whitby turned into a medical emergency for Penny, a 19-month-old toddler who had already faced a life-changing battle before. Less than a year earlier, at just 8 months old, Penny had undergone a lifesaving liver transplant at Birmingham Children’s Hospital. But as her family gathered for a relaxing summer break, Penny’s health suddenly took a turn for the worse.

G-NICU crew worked alongside clinical partner team SONeT in the South to transfer an incubator patient and their parent in just 1hr 1min. The same journey by road would have taken 2hrs 58mins.
Helimed53 were tasked to a media trauma at 18:47 and were on scene at 19:01. The crew treated a patient who had impaled their leg on a railing following a fall, transferring them to hospital by land.
Medic53 were tasked to a medical trauma at 09:16 and were on scene at 09:34. The crew treated a young patient who had suffered an impaling chest injury, administering analgesia, before conveying to hospital by land.
Helimed53 were tasked to a medical trauma at 17:17 and were on scene at 17:50. Working alongside other services, including Midlands Air Ambulance, the crew treated a patient who had suffered a head injury. The crew used advance pre-hospital skills, including administering anaesthesia before airlifting the patient to hospital.
Medic53 were tasked to a medical trauma at 01:47 and were on scene at 01:59. The crew treated a patient who had collapsed, administering anaesthetic, before conveying them to hospital by land.
G-CPTZ crew worked alongside clinical partner team NWTS in the North to transfer a patient and their parent in just 55mins. The same journey by road would have taken 3hrs 12mins.
Helimed54 were tasked to an RTC at 09:56 and were on scene at 10:280 Working alongside other services, the crew treated two patients, both of whom were conveyed to hospital by land.
Hlimed53 were tasked to a medical trauma at 12:27 and were on scene at 12:41. The crew treated a patient who had collapsed transferring them to hospital by land.
Medic53 were tasked to an RTC at 23:36 and were on scene at 23:49. The crew treated a young patient, before conveying them to hospital by land.
Helimed53 were tasked to an RTC at 20:29 and were on scene at 20:54. Working alongside EMAS, the crew treated a child who had been injured falling from their bicycle, before they were transferred to hospital by land.
G-NICU crew worked alongside clinical partner team STRS in the South to transfer a patient and their parent in just 44mins. The same journey by road would have taken 2hrs 49mins.
Helimed53 were tasked to an RTC involving a pedestrian at 14:25 and were on scene at 14:34. The crew assessed and treated a patient, before transporting them to hospital by land.

In total, we fly 4 helicopters across the charity, 2x for our local service and 2x for our Children’s Air Ambulance. We also have 2x Critical Care Cars that support our HEMs services.
Our local service covers 5x counties; Warwickshire, Northamptonshire and Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Rutland.
The Children’s Air Ambulance covers the whole of the UK and works with 10 Clinical Partner Teams from various specialist hospitals.
We provide a rapid response to medical emergencies in the counties of Warwickshire, Northamptonshire and Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Rutland, however, we do support air ambulances further afield if we’re needed.
The Children’s Air Ambulance operates throughout the UK and works with Clinical Partner Teams from specialist hospitals.
