A quick response 
to save Penny’s life
Last summer, a holiday to Whitby turned into a medical emergency for Penny, a 19-month-old toddler who had already faced a life-changing battle before. Less than a year earlier, at just 8 months old, Penny had undergone a lifesaving liver transplant at Birmingham Children’s Hospital. But as her family gathered for a relaxing summer break, Penny’s health suddenly took a turn for the worse.

Medic53 were tasked to an RTC at 03:00 and were on scene at 03:09. Working alongside other services, the crew treated a patient who had been hit by an HGV. The patient was transferred to hospital by land.
Helimed54 were tasked to a patient who had fallen at 11:06 and were on scene at 11:25. The patient had suffered an upper limb injury, and was treated by the crew, before they conveyed them to hospital by land.
Helimed54 were tasked to a patient who had suffered burns at 14:28 and were on scene at 14:44. The crew treated the patient, administering anaesthesia, before airlifting them to hospital.
Helimed54 were tasked to a medical event at 11:48 and were on scene at 11:58. The crew assisted in transferring a baby from a community facility to a regional unit.
Helimed53 were tasked to a patient who had fallen an 12:46 and were on scene at 13:02. The crew assessed the patient, who had a head injury, before they were conveyed to hospital by WMAS.
G-NICU crew worked alongside clinical partner team SORT in the South to transfer a patient in just 1hr 2mins. The same journey by road would have taken 3hrs 55mins.
Helimed54 were tasked to a cardiac arrest at 10:19 and were on scene at 10:36. Working alongside EMAS, the crew treated the patient, delivering critical care interventions, before conveying them to hospital by land.
G-NICU crew worked alongside clinical partner team WATCh in the South to transfer a patient in just 42mins. The same journey by road would have taken 2hrs 22mins.
G-CPTZ crew worked alongside clinical partner team WaTCH in the South to transfer a patient and their parent in just 46mins. The same journey by road would have taken 2hrs 21mins.
Medic54 were tasked to a cardiac arrest at 20:24 and were on scene at 20:35. Using critical care interventions, the crew treated the patient, returning their spontaneous circulation, before transferring them to hospital by land.
G-NICU crew worked alongside clinical partner team CoMET in the Midlands to transfer a patient and their parent in just 55mins. The same journey by road would have taken 2hrs 19mins.
Helimed54 were tasked to an agricultural trauma at 14:45 and were on scene at 15:09. The crew treated a patient, who had been run over by a tractor, using multiple critical care interventions, including a blood transfusion. The patient was then flown to hospital.

In total, we fly 4 helicopters across the charity, 2x for our local service and 2x for our Children’s Air Ambulance. We also have 2x Critical Care Cars that support our HEMs services.
Our local service covers 5x counties; Warwickshire, Northamptonshire and Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Rutland.
The Children’s Air Ambulance covers the whole of the UK and works with 10 Clinical Partner Teams from various specialist hospitals.
We provide a rapid response to medical emergencies in the counties of Warwickshire, Northamptonshire and Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Rutland, however, we do support air ambulances further afield if we’re needed.
The Children’s Air Ambulance operates throughout the UK and works with Clinical Partner Teams from specialist hospitals.
