A quick response 
to save Penny’s life
Last summer, a holiday to Whitby turned into a medical emergency for Penny, a 19-month-old toddler who had already faced a life-changing battle before. Less than a year earlier, at just 8 months old, Penny had undergone a lifesaving liver transplant at Birmingham Children’s Hospital. But as her family gathered for a relaxing summer break, Penny’s health suddenly took a turn for the worse.

Helimed53 were tasked to an RTC involving a motorcycle at 14:54 and were on scene at 15:10. Landing in a nearby field, the crew treated an injured patient, using advance critical care skills, before conveying them to hospital by land.
Helimed53 were tasked to a trauma at 15:47 and were on scene at 16:35. Working alongside other services, the crew treated a patient with an impalement injury, before transferring them to hospital by land.
Helimed54 were tasked to an RTC at 17:14 and were on scene at 17:37. Landing nearby, the crew treated an injured patient, before airlifting them to hospital.
Helimed54 were tasked to an RTC at 14:43 and were on scene at 14:55. Working alongside other services, the crew treated two injured patients, both of whom were conveyed to hospital by land.
G-CPTZ crew worked alongside clinical partner team Embrace in the North to transfer a patient and their parent in just 1hr 14mins. The same journey by road would have taken 4hrs 13mins.
Medic53 were tasked to a sporting trauma at 20:55 and were on scene at 21:30. The crew treated a patient with an ankle injury, transferring them to hospital by land.
Helimed54 were tasked to a patient who had fallen at 06:57 and were on scene at 07:09. Landing in a nearby park, the crew worked with other services to treat a patient, before they were conveyed to hospital by land.
G-NICU crew worked alongside clinical partner team CATS in the South to transfer a patient and their parent in just 1hr 47mins. The same journey by road would have taken 5hrs 14mins.
Medic53 were tasked to a patient who had suffered burns at 21:18 and were on scene at 21:26. Working alongside other services, the crew treated an injured patient, before they were transferred to hospital by land.
Helimed53 were tasked to a medical emergency involving a child at 09:42 and were on scene at 09:56. The crew treated the patient, conveying them to hospital by land.
G-CPTZ crew worked alongside clinical partner team Embrace in the North to transfer a patient in just 40mins. The same journey by road would have taken 1hr 56mins.
Helimed54 were tasked to an RTC at 13:17 and were 0on scene at 13:35. The crew worked alongside other services to treat an injured patient, before airlifting them to hospital.

In total, we fly 4 helicopters across the charity, 2x for our local service and 2x for our Children’s Air Ambulance. We also have 2x Critical Care Cars that support our HEMs services.
Our local service covers 5x counties; Warwickshire, Northamptonshire and Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Rutland.
The Children’s Air Ambulance covers the whole of the UK and works with 10 Clinical Partner Teams from various specialist hospitals.
We provide a rapid response to medical emergencies in the counties of Warwickshire, Northamptonshire and Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Rutland, however, we do support air ambulances further afield if we’re needed.
The Children’s Air Ambulance operates throughout the UK and works with Clinical Partner Teams from specialist hospitals.
