A quick response 
to save Penny’s life
Last summer, a holiday to Whitby turned into a medical emergency for Penny, a 19-month-old toddler who had already faced a life-changing battle before. Less than a year earlier, at just 8 months old, Penny had undergone a lifesaving liver transplant at Birmingham Children’s Hospital. But as her family gathered for a relaxing summer break, Penny’s health suddenly took a turn for the worse.

Helimed54 were tasked to a cardiac arrest at 13:42 and were on scene at 13:50. The crew provided advanced critical care before transferring the patient to hospital by land.
G-CPTZ crew worked alongside clinical partner team SoNAR in the South to transfer an incubator patient and their parent in just 1hr 57mins. The same journey by road would have taken 4hrs 59mins.
Medic53 were tasked to a medical emergency at 01:51 and were on scene at 02:12. Working alongside WMAS, the crew treated a patient with a significant medical bleed before transferring them to hospital by land.
Medic53 were tasked to a medical emergency at 09:10 and were on scene at 09:15. The crew assessed a patient following a collapse before they were conveyed to hospital for onward care.
Medic54 were tasked to a cardiac arrest at 22:39 and were on scene at 22:52. Working alongside other services, the crew treated a patient, before conveying them to hospital by land alongside EMAS.
Helimed54 were tasked to an RTC involving a pedestrian at 12:49 and were on scene at 13:08. The crew assisted EMAS in caring for a patient conveying them to hospital by land.
Helimed53 were tasked to a sporting trauma at 10:39 and were on scene at 10:50. The crew treated a patient following a fall from a horse before transferring them to hospital by land.
G-CPTZ crew worked alongside clinical partner team SONeT in the South to transfer an incubator patient and their parent in just 52mins. The same journey by road would have taken 3hrs 12mins.
Medic54 were tasked to a fall at 22:14 and were on scene at 22:39. The crew treated a patient who had sustained facial injuries following a fall and seizure, before conveying them to hospital by land.
Medic54 were tasked to an RTC at 20:29 and were on scene at 20:37. The crew provided critical care to a seriously injured patient before conveying them to hospital by land.
Medic53 were tasked to a fall at 05:40 and were on scene at 05:52. The crew worked alongside other service to treat the patient before they were left in the care of EMAS for onward transport.
Helimed53 were tasked to a fall at 12:24 and were on scene at 12:40. The crew provided advanced critical care before transferring the patient to hospital by land.

In total, we fly 4 helicopters across the charity, 2x for our local service and 2x for our Children’s Air Ambulance. We also have 2x Critical Care Cars that support our HEMs services.
Our local service covers 5x counties; Warwickshire, Northamptonshire and Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Rutland.
The Children’s Air Ambulance covers the whole of the UK and works with 10 Clinical Partner Teams from various specialist hospitals.
We provide a rapid response to medical emergencies in the counties of Warwickshire, Northamptonshire and Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Rutland, however, we do support air ambulances further afield if we’re needed.
The Children’s Air Ambulance operates throughout the UK and works with Clinical Partner Teams from specialist hospitals.
