A quick response 
to save Penny’s life
Last summer, a holiday to Whitby turned into a medical emergency for Penny, a 19-month-old toddler who had already faced a life-changing battle before. Less than a year earlier, at just 8 months old, Penny had undergone a lifesaving liver transplant at Birmingham Children’s Hospital. But as her family gathered for a relaxing summer break, Penny’s health suddenly took a turn for the worse.

GPICU completed a transfer with Clinical partner Team CATS, in just 31 minutes which would have taken over 2hours by road.
Helimed54 received a call at 11.52am and arrived on scene at 12.12pm to an RTC involving a motorcycle and car. The crew arrived to support EMAS crew and treat patient before flying them to hospital.
Helimed54 received a call to a cardiac arrest at 09.00am and arrived on scene at 09.10am. Patient was resuscitated on scene before being stabilised and taken to hospital by land ambulance.
GPICU worked alongside Embrace to transfer a patient in 1.5hrs to a specialist treatment centre. This journey by land ambulance would have taken nearly 4 hours.
Medic54 received a call to an RTC at 04.54am and were on the scene at 05.07am. Patient treated for scalp wounds and loss of consciousness before being handed taken to hospital by land crew.
Medic54 received a call at 14.05pm and were on the scene in twenty minutes arriving at 14.25pm. Patient treated and given analgesia on scene before being handed over to land crew.
Medic54 received a call out to an RTC at 18.47pm and were on the scene at 19.02pm. Patients treated on scene and handed over to EMAS crew and taken to hospital in land ambulance.
Helimed54 received a call at 14.42pm and arrived on scene at 14.50pm to an RTC involving 2 cars. The crew arrived to support WMAS crew and patients were treated before being taken to hospital.
GPICU worked alongside NEST to transfer a patient in just 36mins to a specialist treatment centre. This journey by land ambulance would have taken over 2 hours.
Helimed53 received a call at 09.19am and were on scene at 09.25am. RTC involving car and cyclist where patient was given analgesia on scene and flown to hospital.
Medic54 received a call to an RTC at 21.30pm and arrived on scene at 21.50pm. 2x patients treated on scene for minor injuries before being handed over to EMAS crews.
Medic53 received a call to an RTC at 02.55am and were on scene at 03.17am. Our critical care crew assisted the EMAS crew with patient who was then escorted to hospital for further care.
