A quick response 
to save Penny’s life
Last summer, a holiday to Whitby turned into a medical emergency for Penny, a 19-month-old toddler who had already faced a life-changing battle before. Less than a year earlier, at just 8 months old, Penny had undergone a lifesaving liver transplant at Birmingham Children’s Hospital. But as her family gathered for a relaxing summer break, Penny’s health suddenly took a turn for the worse.

Helimed53 were tasked to a road traffic collision in Ash Green at 18:16 and were on scene at 18:25. Working alongside ambulance service colleagues, the crew assessed and treated a patient injured in the incident before escorting them to hospital by land ambulance for further treat
Helimed54 were tasked to a medical emergency in Derby at 11:07 and were on scene at 11:23. Working alongside EMAS, the crew assessed and treated a patient before transferring them to hospital by land ambulance.
Working alongside clinical partner team KIDS, the G-NICU crew and NCAA Airdesk team completed a transfer to Great Ormond Street Hospital in 55mins. The same journey by road would have taken 2hrs 48mins.
Helimed54 were tasked to an RTC in Ellistown at 12:54 and were on scene at 13:09. Working alongside EMAS, the crew assessed and treated a cyclist involved in a collision before they were left in the care of the ambulance service for onward transfer to hospital.
Medic54 were tasked to a medical emergency in Leicester at 18:02 and were on scene at 18:14. The crew responded to reports of a cardiac arrest to support ambulance service colleagues before being stood down at scene when additional critical care support was no longer required.
Helimed54 were tasked to an assault incident in Newstead at 17:11 and were on scene at 17:25. Working alongside EMAS, the crew provided advanced critical care interventions to a patient with serious injuries before transferring them to hospital by land ambulance.
Medic54 were tasked to a fall incident in Rugby at 06:09 and were on scene at 06:38. Working alongside WMAS, the crew treated a patient with multiple injuries following a fall before transferring them to hospital by land ambulance.
Helimed54 were tasked to an assault incident in Rothley at 21:10 and were on scene at 21:20. Working alongside EMAS and police colleagues, the crew responded to reports of an injured patient before being stood down at scene following assessment by ambulance service teams.
Working alongside clinical partner team SoNAR in the South West, the G-NICU crew and NCAA Airdesk team completed an incubator transfer to Truro in just 33mins. The same journey by road would have taken 1hr 44mins.
Medic53 were tasked to a medical emergency in South Derbyshire at 02:01 and were on scene at 02:40. Working alongside EMAS, the crew treated a patient following a cardiac arrest before transferring them to hospital by land ambulance after a successful resuscitation.
Helimed54 were tasked to a medical emergency in Mansfield at 07:12 and were on scene at 07:27. Working alongside EMAS, the crew treated a critically unwell infant before transferring the patient to hospital by land ambulance with ongoing advanced life support.

In total, we fly 4 helicopters across the charity, 2x for our local service and 2x for our Children’s Air Ambulance. We also have 2x Critical Care Cars that support our HEMs services.
Our local service covers 5x counties; Warwickshire, Northamptonshire and Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Rutland.
The Children’s Air Ambulance covers the whole of the UK and works with 10 Clinical Partner Teams from various specialist hospitals.
We provide a rapid response to medical emergencies in the counties of Warwickshire, Northamptonshire and Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Rutland, however, we do support air ambulances further afield if we’re needed.
The Children’s Air Ambulance operates throughout the UK and works with Clinical Partner Teams from specialist hospitals.
