A quick response 
to save Penny’s life
Last summer, a holiday to Whitby turned into a medical emergency for Penny, a 19-month-old toddler who had already faced a life-changing battle before. Less than a year earlier, at just 8 months old, Penny had undergone a lifesaving liver transplant at Birmingham Children’s Hospital. But as her family gathered for a relaxing summer break, Penny’s health suddenly took a turn for the worse.

Helimed54 were tasked to a medical emergency at 08:38 and were on scene at 08:42. The crew assessed a patient, before they were transferred to hospital in the care of the ambulance crew.
Helimed53 were tasked to a patient with burns at 11:47 and were on scene at 12:00. The crew assessed two patients, both of whom were left in the care of the ambulance crew.
Medic54 were tasked to a medical emergency at 17:44 and were on scene at 18:03. The crew assessed a patient, before conveying them to hospital for land.
Medic53 were tasked to a medical emergency at 18:04 and were on scene at 18:13. The crew provided advanced critical care, conveying them to hospital by land.
Medic53 were tasked to a patient who had fallen at 04:20 and were on scene at 04:33. The crew assisted WMAS to treat the injured patient, before they were conveyed to hospital by WMAS.
G-NICU crew worked alongside clinical partner team WATCh to transfer a patient in just 53mins. The same journey by road would have taken 2hrs 47mins.

Helimed54 were tasked to a RTC at 15:38 and were on scene at 15:48. Landing in a nearby school field, the crew assessed the patient. Critical care interventions were not required and patient was left in the care of the ambulance crew.
Medic53 were tasked to a medical emergency at 16:36 and were on scene at 16:49. The crew delivered advanced critical care, before transporting the patient to hospital by land.
Medic53 were tasked to a patient who had fallen at 19:46 and were on scene at 19:56. The crew assisted WMAS to treat the injured patient, conveying them to hospital by land.
Medic53 were tasked to a RTC at 05:39 and were on scene at 06:08. The crew provided critical care to the injured patient, transferring them to hospital by land.
Medic53 were tasked to a medical emergency at 08:56 and were on scene at 09:02. The crew treated the patient with advanced critical care, before conveying them to hospital by land.

In total, we fly 4 helicopters across the charity, 2x for our local service and 2x for our Children’s Air Ambulance. We also have 2x Critical Care Cars that support our HEMs services.
Our local service covers 5x counties; Warwickshire, Northamptonshire and Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Rutland.
The Children’s Air Ambulance covers the whole of the UK and works with 10 Clinical Partner Teams from various specialist hospitals.
We provide a rapid response to medical emergencies in the counties of Warwickshire, Northamptonshire and Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Rutland, however, we do support air ambulances further afield if we’re needed.
The Children’s Air Ambulance operates throughout the UK and works with Clinical Partner Teams from specialist hospitals.
