A quick response 
to save Penny’s life
Last summer, a holiday to Whitby turned into a medical emergency for Penny, a 19-month-old toddler who had already faced a life-changing battle before. Less than a year earlier, at just 8 months old, Penny had undergone a lifesaving liver transplant at Birmingham Children’s Hospital. But as her family gathered for a relaxing summer break, Penny’s health suddenly took a turn for the worse.

Medic53 were tasked to an industrial trauma at 11:19 and were on scene at 11:24. Working alongside other services, the crew treated a patient with an injured hand, before they were conveyed to hospital by WMAS.
Helimed54 were tasked to a sporting trauma at 13:55 and were on scene at 13:55 and were on scene at 14:12. The crew treated a patient with a head injury before flying them to hospital for further care.
Medic53 were tasked to an RTC at 22:48 and were on scene at 23:21. Working alongside EMAS, the crew assisted in treating a patient, before they were transferred to hospital by land.
Helimed53 were tasked to a medical trauma at 12:25 and were on scene at 12:35. The crew treated a patient who was having a seizure, before transferring them to hospital by land.
Helimed54 were tasked to an RTC involving a motorbike at 16:02 and were on scene at 16:19. Working alongside other service, the crew assessed and treated a patient with a leg injury, before they were conveyed to hospital by EMAS.
G-CPTZ crew worked alongside clinical partner team NWTS in the North to transfer a patient and their parent in just 1hr 14mins. The same journey by road would have taken 4hrs 24mins.
Medic54 were tasked to a fall at 18:37 and were on scene at 18:53. Working alongside EMAS, the crew treated a patient who had suffered a head injury following a fall, before transferring them to hospital by land.
G-NICU crew worked alongside clinical partner team WATCh in the South to transfer a patient in just 55mins. The same journey by road would have taken 2hrs 34mins.
Medic54 were tasked to a cardiac arrest at 20:51 and were on scene at 21:12. The crew worked alongside EMAS to treat a patient, returning their spontaneous circulation, before conveying them to hospital by land.
Helimed53 were tasked to a medical trauma at 13:11 and were on scene at 13:25. Landing in the castle car park, the crew worked alongside WMAS to treat a patient, before conveying them to hospital by land.
G-CPTZ crew worked alongside clinical partner team CATs in the South to transfer a patient and their parent in just 1hr 32mins. The same journey by road would have taken 3hrs 49mins.
Helimed54 were tasked to a sporting trauma at 20:10 and were on scene at 20:32. Landing on a nearby football pitch the crew treated an injured child, transferring them to hospital by land.

In total, we fly 4 helicopters across the charity, 2x for our local service and 2x for our Children’s Air Ambulance. We also have 2x Critical Care Cars that support our HEMs services.
Our local service covers 5x counties; Warwickshire, Northamptonshire and Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Rutland.
The Children’s Air Ambulance covers the whole of the UK and works with 10 Clinical Partner Teams from various specialist hospitals.
We provide a rapid response to medical emergencies in the counties of Warwickshire, Northamptonshire and Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Rutland, however, we do support air ambulances further afield if we’re needed.
The Children’s Air Ambulance operates throughout the UK and works with Clinical Partner Teams from specialist hospitals.
