A quick response 
to save Penny’s life
Last summer, a holiday to Whitby turned into a medical emergency for Penny, a 19-month-old toddler who had already faced a life-changing battle before. Less than a year earlier, at just 8 months old, Penny had undergone a lifesaving liver transplant at Birmingham Children’s Hospital. But as her family gathered for a relaxing summer break, Penny’s health suddenly took a turn for the worse.

Medic53 were tasked to a medical emergency involving two children at 22:32 and were on scene at 22:51. The crew treated three patients, all of whom were conveyed to hospital by land.
Helimed53 were tasked to an RTC involving a motorcycle at 15:38 and were on scene at 15:48. The crew treated an injured patient, airlifting them to hospital.
Helimed54 were tasked to a patient who had fallen from a ladder at 16:42 and were on scene at 16:53. Working alongside other services, the crew treated the patient, conveying them to hospital by land.
Helimed54 were tasked to an RTC at 10:27 and were on scene at 10:56. Landing in a nearby field, the crew treated a patient, using anaesthesia and blood products, before airlifting them to hospital for further care.
G-NICU crew worked alongside clinical partner team WATCh in Wales to transfer a patient in just 56mins. The same journey by road would have taken 2hrs 47mins.
Helimed54 were tasked to a fall at 17:25 and were on scene at 17:42. Working alongside other services, the crew treated a child who had fallen from a tree, before they were transferred to hospital by land.
Helimed54 were tasked to an RTC involving a motorcycle at 12:57 and were on scene at 13:12. Working alongside other services, the crew treated an injured patient, before they were transferred to hospital by EMAS.
Medic53 were tasked to an RTC involving a pedestrian at 21:05 and were on scene at 21:30. The crew provided critical care interventions for the patient, before transferring them to hospital by land.
Medic54 were tasked to an RTC at 23:40 and were on scene at 00:00. Working alongside other services, the crew assessed a patient, before they were escorted to hospital by land.
Medic53 were tasked to an RTC at 09:06 and were on scene at 09:16. Working alongside other services, the crew treated a patient, before they were conveyed to hospital by land.
G-NICU crew worked alongside clinical partner team Embrace in the North to transfer a patient in just 39mins. The same journey by road would have taken 2hrs 26mins. This was the first of two twin patients we transferred back-to-back.

In total, we fly 4 helicopters across the charity, 2x for our local service and 2x for our Children’s Air Ambulance. We also have 2x Critical Care Cars that support our HEMs services.
Our local service covers 5x counties; Warwickshire, Northamptonshire and Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Rutland.
The Children’s Air Ambulance covers the whole of the UK and works with 10 Clinical Partner Teams from various specialist hospitals.
We provide a rapid response to medical emergencies in the counties of Warwickshire, Northamptonshire and Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Rutland, however, we do support air ambulances further afield if we’re needed.
The Children’s Air Ambulance operates throughout the UK and works with Clinical Partner Teams from specialist hospitals.
