A quick response 
to save Penny’s life
Last summer, a holiday to Whitby turned into a medical emergency for Penny, a 19-month-old toddler who had already faced a life-changing battle before. Less than a year earlier, at just 8 months old, Penny had undergone a lifesaving liver transplant at Birmingham Children’s Hospital. But as her family gathered for a relaxing summer break, Penny’s health suddenly took a turn for the worse.

Helimed53 were tasked to a cardiac arrest at 13:30 and were on scene at 13:58. Landing in a nearby sports pitch, the crew treated a patient, providing advanced critical care, before transferring them to hospital by land.
Helimed54 were tasked to a sporting trauma at 16:00 and were on scene at 16:28. Landing in a nearby field, the crew worked alongside EMAS to treat a patient before airlifting them to hospital.
Helimed54 were tasked to an RTC at 12:56 and were on scene at 13:06. Landing in a nearby field, the crew worked alongside multiple other services to assess and treat two patients. The crew conveyed one patient to hospital by land, while the other was transferred by EMAS.
Helimed53 were tasked to a cardiac arrest at 10:37 and were on scene at 11:07. Landing in a nearby field, the crew worked with EMAS to treat the patient, providing advanced emergency care and airlifting the, to hospital.
Helimed53 were tasked to a cardiac arrest at 14:52 and were on scene at 15:21. Landing in a nearby field, the crew returned the patient’s circulation. CPR and defibrillator shocks had been administered by a bystander prior to their arrival. The crew conveyed the patient to hospital by land.
G-NICU crew worked alongside clinical partner team SoNAR in the South to transfer a clinical team in just 1hr. The same journey by road would have taken 2hrs 49mins.
Medic53 were tasked to an RTC at 23:15 and were on scene at 23:35. Working alongside other services, the crew treated a patient before transferring them to hospital by land.
Medic53 were tasked to a patient who had fallen at 05:12 and were on scene at 05:40. Working alongside EMAS, the crew treated the injured patient, before they were conveyed to hospital by land.
Helimed53 were tasked to a cardiac arrest at 12:17 and were on scene at 12:33. Landing in a nearby field, the crew worked alongside other services to treat a patient. The crew used advanced critical care techniques, before spontaneous circulation was returned following defibrillator shocks, and the patient was conveyed to hospital by land.
G-CPTZ crew worked alongside clinical partner team NWTs in the North to transfer a patient and their parent in just 54mins. The same journey by road would have taken 3hrs 17mins.
Helimed54 were tasked to a sporting trauma at 19:38 and were on scene at 19:49. Landing in a large field, the crew worked alongside EMAS to treat the patient, providing analgesia, before airlifting them to hospital.
Helimed53 were tasked to a cardiac arrest at 07:37 and were on scene at 07:55. Landing in a nearby field, the crew provided critical care intervention, returning their circulation before conveying them to hospital by land.

In total, we fly 4 helicopters across the charity, 2x for our local service and 2x for our Children’s Air Ambulance. We also have 2x Critical Care Cars that support our HEMs services.
Our local service covers 5x counties; Warwickshire, Northamptonshire and Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Rutland.
The Children’s Air Ambulance covers the whole of the UK and works with 10 Clinical Partner Teams from various specialist hospitals.
We provide a rapid response to medical emergencies in the counties of Warwickshire, Northamptonshire and Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Rutland, however, we do support air ambulances further afield if we’re needed.
The Children’s Air Ambulance operates throughout the UK and works with Clinical Partner Teams from specialist hospitals.
