A quick response 
to save Penny’s life
Last summer, a holiday to Whitby turned into a medical emergency for Penny, a 19-month-old toddler who had already faced a life-changing battle before. Less than a year earlier, at just 8 months old, Penny had undergone a lifesaving liver transplant at Birmingham Children’s Hospital. But as her family gathered for a relaxing summer break, Penny’s health suddenly took a turn for the worse.

Helimed54 were tasked to a trauma at 16:50 and were on scene at 17:07. Landing on a field on site, the crew worked alongside other services to treat an injured patient, before they were conveyed to hospital by land.
Helimed53 were tasked to a medical trauma at 20:05 and were on scene at 20:15. Landing in a car park, the crew worked alongside WMAS to treat an injured patient, before transferring them to hospital by land.
G-CPTZ crew worked alongside clinical partner team KIDS in the Midlands to transfer a patient and their parent in just 55mins. The same journey by road would have taken 2hrs 53mins.
Helimed54 were tasked to an RTC at 11:00 and were on scene at 11:20. Landing at a local school, the crew worked alongside multiple other services to treat a patient, before conveying them to hospital by land.
Helimed53 were tasked to an industrial trauma at 11:02 and were on scene at 11:11. Landing on a nearby grassy area, the crew worked alongside other services to treat a patient before they were transferred to hospital by EMAS.
Helimed53 were tasked to a RTC at 12:28 and were on scene at 12:48. Landing in an adjacent field, the crew assisted multiple other services to provide advanced critical care, before transporting them to hospital by land.
Helimed54 were tasked to a RTC at 13:23 and were on scene at 13:38. Landing in a nearby park, the crew worked alongside multiple other services to treat the injured patient, before airlifting them to hospital.
Helimed54 were tasked to a RTC at 18:16 and were on scene at 18:31. Landing in a nearby park, the crew treated two injured patients, both of whom were conveyed to hospital.
G-NICU crew worked alongside clinical partner team SoNAR in the South to transfer an incubator patient and their parent in just 1hr 19mins. The same journey by road would have taken 3hrs 24mins. Transfer by air meant the crew could immediately start another mission, saving valuable time and resources.
G- NICU crew worked alongside clinical partner team COMeT in the North to transfer an incubator patient and their parent in just 1hr 6mins. The same journey by road would have taken 3hrs 6mins. This transfer directly followed the previous one, saving the crew valuable time and resources.
Helimed53 were tasked to an RTC at 15:26 and were on scene at 15:38. Landing in a field close to the scene, the crew worked alongside multiple other services to treat an injured patient, providing critical care interventions, before airlifting them to hospital.
Medic54 were tasked to a cardiac arrest at 23:43 and were on scene at 23:15. Working alongside other services, including LNAA, the crew treated a patient, providing emergency anaesthetic, before conveying them to hospital by land.

In total, we fly 4 helicopters across the charity, 2x for our local service and 2x for our Children’s Air Ambulance. We also have 2x Critical Care Cars that support our HEMs services.
Our local service covers 5x counties; Warwickshire, Northamptonshire and Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Rutland.
The Children’s Air Ambulance covers the whole of the UK and works with 10 Clinical Partner Teams from various specialist hospitals.
We provide a rapid response to medical emergencies in the counties of Warwickshire, Northamptonshire and Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Rutland, however, we do support air ambulances further afield if we’re needed.
The Children’s Air Ambulance operates throughout the UK and works with Clinical Partner Teams from specialist hospitals.
