A quick response 
to save Penny’s life
Last summer, a holiday to Whitby turned into a medical emergency for Penny, a 19-month-old toddler who had already faced a life-changing battle before. Less than a year earlier, at just 8 months old, Penny had undergone a lifesaving liver transplant at Birmingham Children’s Hospital. But as her family gathered for a relaxing summer break, Penny’s health suddenly took a turn for the worse.

Helimed53 were tasked to a medical emergency at 10:50 and were on scene at 11:05. The crew assessed a patient, leaving them in the care of the ambulance crew.
G-NICU crew worked alongside clinical partner SoNAR to transfer a patient in just 1hr 8mins. The same journey by road would have taken 3hrs 30mins.
Helimed53 were tasked to a medical trauma at 13:18 and were on scene at 13:35. Landing in a nearby park, the crew treated the patient before conveying them to hospital by land.
Helimed54 were tasked to a sporting trauma at 13:51 and were on scene at 14:18. The crew worked alongside mountain rescue, transporting the patient to hospital by air.
Medic53 were tasked to a medical emergency at 07:23 and were on scene at 07:51. The crew assisted EMAS to treat the patient with advanced critical care, before conveying them to hospital by land.
G-NICU crew worked alongside clinical partner EMBRACE to transfer an incubator patient in just 1hr 3mins. The same journey by road would have taken 3hrs 3mins.
Helimed53 were tasked to a RTC at 12:27 and were on scene at 12:38. The crew treated the injured patient, before transporting them to hospital by land.
G-NICU crew worked alongside clinical partner WATCh to transfer a patient and their parent in just 30mins. The same journey by road would have taken 2hrs 44mins.
G-CPTZ crew worked alongside clinical partner Embrace to transfer a patient in just 1hr 27mins. The same journey by road would have taken 3hrs 44mins.
Helimed53 were tasked to a medical emergency at 08:57 and were on scene at 09:35. The crew treated the patient, before conveying them to hospital by land.
G-NICU crew worked alongside clinical partner SoNAR to transfer an incubator patient and their parent in just 1hr 11mins. The same journey by road would have taken 3hrs 59mins.
Helimed54 were tasked to a medical emergency at 08:20 and were on scene at 08:32. The crew provided critical care interventions, returning their circulation before conveying them to hospital by land.

In total, we fly 4 helicopters across the charity, 2x for our local service and 2x for our Children’s Air Ambulance. We also have 2x Critical Care Cars that support our HEMs services.
Our local service covers 5x counties; Warwickshire, Northamptonshire and Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Rutland.
The Children’s Air Ambulance covers the whole of the UK and works with 10 Clinical Partner Teams from various specialist hospitals.
We provide a rapid response to medical emergencies in the counties of Warwickshire, Northamptonshire and Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Rutland, however, we do support air ambulances further afield if we’re needed.
The Children’s Air Ambulance operates throughout the UK and works with Clinical Partner Teams from specialist hospitals.
