The Air Ambulance Service (TAAS) is offering visitors to its stores and cafés Sensory Borrow Bags to support those who experience sensory overwhelm in busy or noisy environments.
The Sensory Borrow Bags, developed by the charity’s Neurodiversity Network, contain ear defenders and a selection of fidget toys to help support customers during their shop. The initiative is intended to make stores and cafés more welcoming and accessible to children and adults who may struggle with additional sensory needs.
“We recognise that not everyone experiences our environments in the same way,” said Victoria Burman, Learning and Development Officer at TAAS. “Busy, bright or noisy spaces can be overwhelming for some people. These Sensory Borrow Bags are a simple and practical way for us to offer support, helping more people feel comfortable and included when they visit us.”

Parents of children with sensory needs have also expressed their support. Julia Wiggins, parent of a four-year-old child, said: “Having access to something like this can be the difference between a quick, stressful visit and a positive experience for me and my child. Knowing there are tools available that can help calm and ground them means we can shop as a family with far less worry. It makes us feel seen, understood, and truly welcome.”
The Air Ambulance Service operates Your Local Air Ambulance, providing vital care across five counties and the National Children’s Air Ambulance, transferring critically ill babies and children to specialist treatment across the UK. The charity receives no government funding and relies entirely on public donations to continue its work.
