HOW YOUR SUPPORT HELPS
Leo’s parents first realised that their son had been in a serious car accident when they received a ‘crash alert’ from the family’s location-sharing app. On the 26th March 2025, Leo lost control of his car near his home in Mastin Moor, crashing head on into a tree.
He suffered devasting injuries including multiple bleeds on the brain, nerve damage and serious trauma to his ear. Due to the severity of his head injuries, Leo was put into a coma at the roadside to protect his brain from further trauma. He remained in a coma for two weeks, and woke up in Chesterfield Royal Hospital. It’s here that the extent of his injuries was realised. He was unable to speak, was too weak to move, and communicated by hand squeezes and eyebrow movements.
Months later, Leo returned home to start his long road to recovery, with his family and dog Wyn by his side. Without The Air Ambulance Service, the Elliot family’s story may have ended very differently. Since the accident, they’ve raised thousands of pounds for the charity that saved Leo’s life.
