data-contrast=\"auto\">The August Bank Holiday in 2025 was supposed to be a carefree morning for 10<\/span>\u2011<span data-contrast=\"auto\">year<\/span>\u2011<span data-contrast=\"auto\">old Destiny,\u00a0as she headed to the local basketball court\u00a0on her bike with\u00a0a\u00a0friend.\u00a0But in an instant, everything changed.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">As Destiny looped around the court, she took a corner too sharply. Her bike skidded, the tyres slipping out from under her, and before she could react, she was thrown to the ground. A sharp cry echoed across the park as dog walkers rushed towards her&#8230;<\/span><\/p>\n<h5><strong>Despite the shock and intense pain, Destiny managed to call her dad.<\/strong><\/h5>\n<p><span face<\/h4>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 1rem\">Mike recalls. <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">A paramedic conducted a Facetime assessment, and soon after flashing blue lights filled the park as the emergency crews arrived. Then came the unmistakable thrum of rotor blades overhead &#8211; the air ambulance was landing. <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">For Mike, watching the helicopter touch down beside his injured daughter was overwhelming.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 1rem\">&#8220;Seeing your child loaded into a helicopter is terrifying&#8221; <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 1rem\">he says. <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 1rem\">&#8220;But the crew were incredible with both of us&#8221;.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Critical Care Paramedic, Karl Bexon,\u00a0administered pain relief before carefully removing the embedded handlebar. The\u00a0crew\u00a0stabilised her and prepared her for flight. Within minutes, Destiny was airborne, heading\u00a0for Nottingham Queen\u2019s Medical Centre &#8211; a journey that took just 14 minutes.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"col-12 col-lg-6\">\n\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"content-styles block-content-columns__content\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Destiny spent three nights in hospital before being discharged with crutches and a physiotherapy plan. <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">In the weeks that followed, she needed a skin graft to repair the wound.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Today, Destiny is back at school, laughing with her friends, riding her bike, and being her usual bubbly, energetic self.
